Random crashes
Am i the only person having these problems? I hope not cos it's doing me head in. The last time it happened i was attacking a convoy of about six ships escorted by three destroyers, had just put two fish in the side of an old tanker and was recalculating my firing solution, was on the map screen had just clicked on the protractor to get a new AOB then the game froze then, you guessed it CTD :damn: , s**t i thought i haven't been able to finish a single patrol. I hope they do release another patch to fix this. Not bothered about the stop watch not working to get ship speeds as have found a more reliable way of doing this on these boards, just want it to stop crashing. This wouldn't be half the game it is without the fine moding community here, i just wish publishers would stop using end users as beta testers. I don't know how this game got through quality controll with all the bugs and blatant errors present. ahem rant over chilled now:|\\ , just dissapointed wanted to enjoy this game, but it's unplayable in its current state.
My system: Intel core 2 cpu 4300 @ 1.8ghz 1Gb RAM Nvidea Geforce 7600GT with 256MB ram p.s. Wonder if putting more ram in would help? |

I also have 1GB Ram, no problems playing, nor any crashes.
Are your drivers up to date? Normally, graphic driver issues gives you slowdowns/artifacts just before crashing. Sound- and/or mobo-driver issues usually don't give you any feedback before showing you your desktop or a BSOD again. I'd search there first. You could also have heating problem, but I would expect slowdowns first. Do you have temp-warning software running? Usually they pop-up when a temp limit is reached. If a game can't take that, then it will crash. Good luck, post if you find anything (or not). |
I did (and possibly still do) have similar problems. Every once in a while, on no particular screen, my screen freezes after becoming blurry and basically unreadable. I have to exit out and then immediately check my Nvidia temp screen which shows NO overheating-not much above 50. I didn't notice this with my old vid card (6800 256M) but had upgraded to a 7600GS (512M). I may try running fans in front of and behind my PC just to see if this helps.
I save often for this very reason. About the only time I justify reloading a game. P4 3.4Ghz 2Gig RAM |
Blimey, thanks for the swift replies:D . Just checked an i have all the latest drivers for my system. Running forceware drivers 158.18 for gpu (think they are latest ones, installed them on Monday:know: ). Not running any temp warning software, oh did i mention my operating system is vista home premium? Got stuck with it as my old pc couldn't be repaired (best one i ever had) an they gave me this one for free, still working the bugs out of it spose it may have somethig to do with that. Think i'll put another gig of ram in anyways as vista uses about half a gig all by itself.

Vista is a RAM hog. Another gig should help.
|
Another vista victum, poor guy.
Fact of the matter is that many hardware manufacturers do not have truely compatible drivers yet. |
Wow, only 1GB of ram and running vista......yer a brave soul.....or very very patient :D I too have random CTD's but I get no warning of any kind before hand. My system is so fast it just goes straight to desktop LOL
At any rate I do believe others are having a random CTD issue with 1.2 |

All I can say is I have been playing since shortly after release and prior to patch 1.1.
Probably have close to 100 hours of time "wasted" so far with this game. Ive had one ctd and that was intentional "I pressed the A key to see if it would and it did". My "average" gaming session is about 2 hours or so sometimes longer while leaving it run while I mow the lawn or some such. Still no crashes. The game handles shelling (switching to desktop) quite well which is more than I can say about some others. Ill stick with XP for now thanks  |
Maybe this will help, but I haven't got into the game today to try it--I have been playing with absolutely no problems since the game came out on my old Dell--2.8 gig, radeon 9800, audigy zs, 2 gigs of ram. Then yesterday, because of something I read in this forum about lowering the 3D sound slider, I did that. I had it on full (all the way to the right) but brought it 2/3 of the way back.
Got into the game, got into a convoy, and had 4 ctd's in a row. Like I said, I haven't played today yet but am going to put that slider back! |

I've had crashes with or without mods installed. At first i put it down to a lack of ram so put an extra gig in this morning (only had 1 gig prevoiusley and it ran like a dog:down: ). The mods i have are, 360 degree bearing plotter tool converted from the SH3 version by captain cox, ParaB's fewer radio contacts, Kosh stealty sub sound pack v1.22 and an imperial nomograph and stopwatch replacement. tbh i don't think these mods are causing my crashes. Will just have to see how it runs now, think we're getting there:know:

Attempt to remove sound mod... and try.
