USS Lancetfish (SS-296) - the sorriest sub ever
One of the magnificent products of Cramp Shipbuilding Co, Philadelphia PA
Laid down on 30th September 1942 and allready commissioned on 12th March 1945 (!) Sank in Boston Harbour after accidental flooding of a stern torpedo tube only three days later. Raised on the 23rd, decommissioned on the 24th. Laid up until 1959, then scrapped I am not sure she ever sailed a mile under her own power. This is going to be my new favorite sub!:rock: Can anybody make me a sig banner with that boat? http://www.navsource.org/archives/08/0829603.jpg |
Sounds like one of my missions:rotfl: :rotfl:

I know that mentioning "Nuclear" on this forum is tantamount to high treason but if you want to read about another unlucky submarine, I found this on Wikipedia:-
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Thresher_%28SSN-593%29 Think I'd have applied for a transfer after the tug boat incident! |

Many a sub were sent to other yards to get final completion. Cramp, from what I have read, was not the best yard and took to long to complete subs. |
Kinda appropriate name for a sub builder:D , I can just see their advertisement!!
