Stange skies in GWX: Clouds & Sky don't transition smoothly

So here's this weird thing that I have found...don't know if it is related to the GWX, but I never noticed it untill I installed it. I can look around the sky, and where the clouds/sky differ there is a straight line. It really looks like crap and is a total immersion killer. I have done searches and looked around these forums, but can find no one else having these problems.

Besides this problem, I am having nothing but pure pleasure from this mod. Can ya'll help out a fellow kaelun? :D

Welcome aboard kaleun crystallinesheen :arrgh!:
This sounds like a graphics card problem :yep:
A screenshot would be beneficial

Unless this is occuring all the time, it sounds like the weather transition bug. Not everyone has seen it but it occurs when the weather is about to change. It kinda looks like the clouds are abstract art, made up of 'triangles' of varying sizes and they occasionally flash or flicker.

If this is the case a short spell at TC while submerged will usually clear it.

It's not related to GWX per se but rather the edited/improved scene.dats that have been developed, which have been used in many major mods.

A screenie will help though.

Welcome to Subsim, don't be a stranger.

I have seen nothing but beautiful sky/clouds with GWX. Looks so real.

Rubini 05-04-07 08:33 AM

Crystallinesheen and Danlisa are right.
The problem really exist. I also saw it sometimes when playing. It's wheater transition related for sure. And it is like Danlisa described it: some annoying triangles on the sky dome.

I don't know if this is a stock bug or not. Perhaps it was really introduced by the adjusted scenes.dat?

I will carry this to GWX team anyway.

Thanks and welcome aboard Crystallinesheen!

Good man Rubini.

I felt sure the GWX Devs knew of this bug, otherwise I would have mentioned it earlier.

Hopefully it can be fixed but if not, it's so rare that it doesn't really present any game killing issues.

Hi Danlisa,

I guess that the team aren't aware about it. I just put a new thread on the GWX Dev team forum anyway about this issue.
And, yes, you are right, it's not frequent and the best solution for now is the one that you write some posts above.;)

If a fix don't appears will be good to have it documented on GWX manual anyway!

I still cant figure out what he means. :shifty:

The pixelation of the cloud's border? Whaaa! Tell me!

I have to say that in all my travels in 16 Km... I've never seen this problem.:-?

Hmm, I wonder.:hmm:

What GFX card does Rubini & crystallinesheen use?

I've only ever noticed it at 1xTC, surfaced & while a weather change is happening (well, in the next 5-10mins game time). Note the weather will not change while this bug is occuring, which is why you need the short TC & Submerge workaround.

Well that sucks. I always wanted to catch the transition of the weather in game.

Not sure if I've come across this myself (once sailed into a rain squall whilst on the surface) with the old Radeon card :hmm:

Anyhow, Rubini has posted the issue over on The Den

I have an ATI X850. I bet that this isn't VC related, because is the unique problem (visual) that I noticed in game...but who knows...:D
And I also only have noticed it 2 or 3 times, in the same conditions that you wrote above.

ATI X800 Pro, here.

Confirmed on my install too.

GWX 103.

X1900XT (7.3 driver) :hmm:

I can leave with this. I have saw only 1 or 2 times on a weather change. Unfortunatly, no screenshot ..
