Questions:What's the cables for on a sub, and any point in the Radio?
 

I was always curious as to what the cables on WW2 subs were for, I assume they're for the either the crew to hold on to while the walk the deck or to give more support for the conning tower..

Also every day or so I send a report, I click both report buttons but the more I think about it, is there really any point???GWX game BTW

First of all is radio antena :D
They re also use in case of sub net to avoid the deck gun to be stuck in.

I think there was a thread some time ago about it with a lot of explanation, you should try a search. No more than 2 weeks ago.

The first part has been answered but the second part is: one is to report contacts and the other is to update Bdu on your results so far :arrgh!:

So are the cables not meant to hold the U-boot in one piece and prevent bow and stern from sinking independently? What a dissapointment!

The cables were apparently referred to as jumper wires. Here's a quote from a web site about U-Boats:

The jumper wires that are such a distinctive part of most Second World War U-boats were in fact short-wave radio antennae (3-30MHz). Stretching both fore and aft of the conning tower, the forward portion was used to transmit while the stern twin wires were for reception. The antennae were connected to the radio within the U-boat by a thin insulated wire entering the conning tower facade. Coupled with their primary use was also the value of using the jumper wires as a means of attaching life lines for crew working on deck in bad weather.
