[REQ] How do I change default torpedo speed?
I'm tired of having to change the speed setting on every torpedo to fast. Is it possible to change the default torpedo speed so that whenever a torpedo is loaded it's speed setting is already set to fast?
I tried searching for an answer to this but couldn't find one. Any ideas out there? |
I'd like to know this too. I never even bother changing it any more. I wish it would remember the settings used on the previous torp and use those (including depth). It does remember the spread angle, but not the other things.
|
Well, if I knew how to change the actual torp speeds, I'd just reverse them. Slow would be 46kts, fast 31kts. Problem worked-around.

I think the default speed can be changed by editing Dials.cfg. I tried changing some values, but ended up with a dial that worked backwards! I was hoping that somebody who is more knowledgable on the subject than I am could give me some ideas on what to change.

Has there been any fix to this yet? I also can't stand having to set torpedoes to fast setting each time.

From what I've read in the operating manuals from WWII that has been posted here, standard procedures where to set all torpedoes to low speed and shallow depth when loading. Personally, I want simulators to be as realistic as possible so I think this is a good feature. :D

I don't mind setting the torps to fast, because at least they stay there. WHY does it keep reseting "contact only" back to magnetic???
|
I have been reading the USS Cod's war patrols and found that on some of her patrols she was loaded with Mk 23 torpedoes. These torpedoes are just a Mk 14 with no low speed setting on them because that setting was hardly ever used, so it was elliminated. I always use the high speed setting and it's a pain having to always change it. The ability of making this the default speed would just make it a nice option.

Found this thread, looking for the same resolution. Can the torpedo default settings be changed to "Contact" and "High Speed"??
It's my boat, I'm the Captain and that's what I want! :arrgh!: |
The 1st post in this thread will help you adjusting those for Mark 10 and Mark 14 torpedoes already now (just load the presented codes in minitweaker). I'm planning on doing the rest of the values and all other torpedoes soon.
|
Has anyone had any luck in doing this yet?
|
The answer is simple... Get the minitweaker, load the proper torpedo tweaking file, look at the max speed, set the minimal speed to the same value, save, reload the game, done...
|
OK, I get it. Instead of having the speed knob physically set to high speed, it's just left at low speed, but the low speed setting is actually changed to be the same as the high speed setting. Did I say that right? I just thought it would be easier to have the knob set at the high speed setting by default from the start. Anyway, what is minitweaker, where do I get it, and how do I use it. Thanks.

Somewhat right... I think... Just reread what I've already said if that doesn't make sense. If it still doesn't make sense, loop! ;)
Mini-Tweaker instructions |
Changes made to the torpedo speed inside .sim file have no effect in game. Tried to do that to fix the 'slow' torpedo bug. The game does not read the speed from that file.
If it works, then I will be surprised. You can set the default depth and dial position 0, 1, 2 somewhere in one of those cfg files. I think. |
