[TEC] sub.sim files
Can anyone better explain what the values in the NSS_*.sim do? What would increasing/decreasing them do etc etc Any information would be nice, sucks randomly editing each entry and then waiting 10 minutes for the game to load to try and figure out what each one kinda does.
Im mainly interested in the entries under the general section of those sim files: restr_dist max_traverse min_traverse speed_traverse max_elevation min_elevation speed_elevation trav_min trav_max elev_min elev_max mass gc_hieght (seems to affect the center of gravity) fr_ratio put_on_water displacement_surfaced draught_surface drag_surface displacement_submerged draught_submerged drag_submerged Thanks for any help! |
I can't answer all of these - but a few of em (the easier ones) I can.
displacement_surfaced - how much your sub "weighs" on the surface - this is with air in the MBT's - Not sure what the game uses it for - unless its incorporated in the DM draught_surface - How deep is the lowest art of your sub - would be a keel if a sub had one. Note this setting is in METERS! drag_surface - The Drag co-efficient used to affect acceleration, deceleration and top speed. Seems to have only a very minor effect - and apparently only in conjuction with sea state. displacement_submerged - same as surfaced but now the MBT's are full of water. draught_submerged - from "Full Submergence" drag_submerged - seems mostly unused - see above |
I am currently messing with the roll/pitch of the S-18 and I almost have it spot on except for one nagging detail. My sub seems to be positively boyant and always seems to float 8 ft above my designated depth, not sure how to fix this or if it really needs fixing.
The values I am using are almost the default except I changed these values: max_elevation is now 105 (was 90) This seems to allow the boat to float higher upwards, I find 105 works and keeps the props from coming out of the water unless in extremely stormy seas (15 m/s wind or 33.6 MPH) min_elevation is now -105 (was -90) Does the opposite of max_elevation speed_elevation is now 15 (was 10) Not sure what this does tbh, but I think it has something to do with how fast the boat changes it elevation, but that would be too easy :P It may have something to do with the speed change caused by the boats pitch when traveling over large waves, not sure. elev_min is now -105 (was -90) Not sure what this redundent value is but I kept it the same as the max _elevation elev_max is now 105 (was 105) Again not sure why they would seemingly repeat the earlier min_elevation but I keep the two numbers the same. Mass is now 929 (was 0) increasing seems to cause the boat to roll more, and sit a little lower in the water. At 930 the boat sat about 6 feet too deep. gc_height is now 2.1 (was .5? not sure) Not really sure what this does exactly, but seems to increase the boats pitch and roll when increased. Thought I would share what I am kinda sorta learning. |
