Weather Changes
Dose everyone have regular changes in the weather, or am I the only one who could sail all the way from Pearl to the Japanese coast with just alittle roughening of the sea, and sometimes no clouds? Always sunny. No overcast, rain, or storms.:o
|
Be careful what you ask for, you may eventually get far more rain than you want. hehe :D
The weather changes for me. |
Most definatly the weather changes. From glassy smooth to mountain sized waves.
Its not like in SH3 where youd be stuck in a monsoon for weeks. |
Yea you get weather changes, but mostly it foggy and calm. Perfect submarine weather. :yep:
|
Then when you do find a convoy, the weather's that rough you can't stop puking long enough to get a bearing on a target.
|
Be happy for calm seas because I get it so rough sometimes I have to up my depth to about 50ft just to see anything out of the periscope over the huge waves and then when im in the trough my conning tower is poking out... luckily the enemy cant see it in the valley of huge waves around me

It changes for me.
that said i either have terrible rain + visability, or perfect visability. was expecting to encountera little variety inbetween. I never really notice it, the weather ussually sets in whilst im submerged. only time i ever noticed real time change is when i was engaging a task force with 2 kongo's and a Yamoto ( my first sighting :) ) flaming fog rolled in as i was making my aproach. that damned Yamoto had a force field too. 3 torps in the morning, 2 torps the next evening, all blew up before they could reach it. talk about bad luck |
The weather generator is a little weird, in my experience the weather seems to follow you around. I.e. if you leave port during a storm i've noticed that the storm will be bloody everywhere. Tested this earlier today, left port during a storm spent two weeks in the same location and the weather NEVER improved a bit, after that I travelled from Manilla to Pearl, still in the same stormy weather, no improvement. I hung around pearl for a week and still the damn weather didn't improve. :damn:
What gives? I know that storms occur in the pacific but lasting 4-5 weeks and being omnipresent does not seem right... Anyone else noticed this? |
I've had enough changing weather I don't think it "follows you around" but I get the impression the distinct weather characteristics are centered on large geographical areas for a time. A few times when I got tired of seeing the same storm for 4-8 days, I would do some 3000+ X while interogating the weather with Contrl-W. Eventually I would see it change and I would go back to normal time to watch it.

You can always hit control + N ( the magic weather key) and change the weather to fair skies and smooth sailing if that storm wont let you be.:sunny:

I too have not been involved in many patrols that have taken place in changeable weather. Mostly it seems to be either good or bad but never a combination.
I have found that my last 2 or 3 missions have completely taken place in torrential rain. It has positive and negative effects. It's great when you can't be seen by the escorts, but rather dodgy when the sea's so rough that the con keeps becoming exposed. It's harsh when your radar or deck watch can't pick up on any contacts and also when closing in on a convoy in really bad weather I have at times only gained visual when they are far too close. It's true that Ctrl+N can help but the downside to this is that it also enables the enemy to see you clearly and start closing in = not a good day out. I personally get very sea sick in even the calmest of conditions and can only imagine what weeks at sea in a sub during poor weather can have done for morale. |
Ok, we've all been to the doctors with a complaint that has seemingly cleared up while in the waiting room or taken a car to the garage which has stopped making that horrible noise the moment the mechanic looks at it. Well.....
Last night, about 4 hours after posting my first comment, I started a mission from Freemantle in the pouring rain that I had been complaining about. Once I reached the Borneo coast it cleared up and became a really lovely day. So, I'll stop whingeing about the weather effects from now on and make sure that there's a picnic hamper stowed in the officers' mess. |
my weather changes all the time from glass smooth seas to roaring Typhoons and most storms dont last more than a day.
Based on observation, I think that at high TC (i.e. 1000x or more), weather changes stops generating. Even on long trips, I rarely go over 512x TC and I stop every 4-8 hours to check the weather on the Bridge. |
Hi TC doesn't stop weather changes. However, since it appears to me weather centers are localized to a geographical location, getting into another location quickly can help with the blahs.
I would not be one to force a clear and calm day just because I'm bored. I see anything but clear and calm and I know I'll live to see another day. Or at least get to SEE the day rather than spend the whole thing submerged hiding from planes. Welcome to the submarine service where patience is a virtue. -Pv- |
What's this "Control-W" Thing? Does it give you a weather report? When I try it, nothing happens.
