Hi all,
Just wanted to say a big thanks for all the info people have been putting up on playing SH4. The manual was slightly lacking in info and not having played any of the Silent Hunter series before (was a big Silent Service fan on the C64) was a little lost, but am now scoring some tunnage, so thanks for the help.
I do have one question though, regarding the crew. How do you go about recruiting more guys into your crew. I read here that someone recruited some from the port but I can't see this option, or is it just a matter of waiting till I have more renown.

Anyhow

While in port .. the office screen click the little sub model on your desk.

there are three tabs on the left crew, medals and promotions (not necessarly in that order).

click on the crew. These are sailors available for hiring. Click and drag them into the empty boxes (stations) on your ship.

You may be refused at times if you dont have enough renown.

I seem to have noticed the ones Down near the bottom of the List have 0 renown. (but they're also the lowest ranked, with the worst skills.)

Correct and you can grab these guys if you want. They do gain experience for each patrol. I usually recruit these guys for my repair team.

Thanks for that, gonna get myself a damage repair team for sure. :D
