Friendly Fire Casualties
 

If you had a loved on in a War Zone, and they were killed by friendly fire would you want to know?

Personally, I would not want to know. I would want to receive a letter from the CO telling me they died bravely. It seems to me the duty of the CO would be to lie to me, and make me feel better.

Also, going over there made them heroes, so how they died is not really important.

I'd want to know everything, and it would sicken me to be lied to about the death of a loved one.

Agreed. Although any loved one I have would be on submarine service :p

No, I would not be willing to let it rest. If whoever dropped them was violating the ROE or the correct precautions weren't taken by commanders, I'd sure as hell want to protest and demand that the right responsibility is taken, and if anyone did something contrary to what they should have - that they are punished correctly.

I agree, in war accidents DO happen, but I don't think it's right to accept each and every one of them as 'part of the job'. If they can be deterred, or prevented through lessons tragically learned - they need to be brought to attention.

From my understanding, pretty much most of the friendly fire incidents that happen (or are publicised) these days have some sort of ROE violations involved. In that case I'd want to know exactly what, who, why and how.
