[TEC] 1024_765 ini file bits

Having that funny problem (mentioned below) with this file, I deleted this file and ran the game without it. AND whammo - the game rebuilt the file for me.

Now, this is interesting, as it indicates that all this info IS hardcoded and thus must be in the one of the game EXE, DLL or other files. If this info is not encrypted (hope not) we should be able to 'extract' it with a hex editor via searching for Strings(ANSI or Unicode). Or just plain browsing these files.
Maybe in this manner we can determine the inner game workings a bit further.

(whoops hit a '5' in '765' instead of a '8')

I had that many o times...I always ended up reinstalling VISTA (keep at least a week old Image using Acronis True Image always) To me its more like a bug in VISTA then in the game, but could be wrong.

I think we have our wires crossed??
What I think happens here, is that if the game does not find certain ini files, it re-creates them. This means that all this info (the text parts that is) should be buried in the game file(s) and can be read via a hex editor (if it's not encrypted of course - else where's my enigma machine :) ).

This means that we should be able to see all the commands/page 'title' info.

That error of the MenuID 0x42170006 still doesn't exist in the newly created ini file, yet the game ran ok after the 1024x768.ini file was re-created. Makes you think !!

I just tried this and it didn't work, got an error and then it crashed. I'm running XP.

CaptainCox explained it, it's VISTA that recreates the file you've deleted not the game.
