Sneaking into Manila port
I am having a ton of trouble getting to the objective star to photo recon a carrier group, I keep getting blown to bits despite not visually seeing any ships attacking me or the crew telling me im under attack, I have tried silent running, I have tried going around all the sonar contacts but I keep getting destroyed
Anyone have a good strategy for sneaking into ports with what seems to be heavy Japanese activity? |
In SH1 you had photo missions as well. Though the water wasn't transparent to the gamer as with SH4, the planes could see you in shallow water. Sometimes trying to sneak in at night helped. I would then wait for sunup, stick up the periscope, take pictures and then hide under a parked merchant all day, then try to sneak back out that night.
Of course fog helps, but it also makes it a little hard to take pictures. On the other hand, SH1 didn't give you any punishment for not completing a special mission. |
Well its nighttime and raining

You get damaged but there are no ships around? That could mean you've either run aground or your sub has hit a sub net. I had a similar objective some time ago and I found out that the carriers in Manila were protected by sub nets. Do I have to mention that I got myself killed during that mission?;)

Interesting, I have a bunch of sonar contacts, but all long range, should I try heading in surfaced? |
What year are you running? my map shows large minefields around Manila in 44-45, though they could have been there earlier..:hmm:

1944
How the hell do I get around mines :| Are there mines actually in this game? |

Ugh |
Try realtime, and yes, it will take hours to get to the target. The only way to navigate a minefield is to avoid the mines, which requires you to be able to see them.

Yikes...

you could try surface approach at night, mines were set low in the water to catch subs out. or hug the shore where its just deep enough to submerge.

Anyone else have any suggestions?
