ATI Video problems

ATI PCIe 1800 GTO 256MB card.
WindowsXP Pro SP2

The startup video is just a buch of 60's acid trip colors when I launch the game. I've downloaded the latest Catalyst drivers from ATi - still same results. The actual game plays fine, it would just be nice to see the intro.

Anyone seen this before?

I get this from time to time as well. It's not the game. It's something to do with Windows Media Player or Windows XP itself. I get it in Windows Media player, my Roxio DVD player software and occasionally any game that has an intro movie. Nothing I do aside from a reboot remedies it and I have no idea what's causing it.
It still happens to me but less frequently now than it did. I have a GForce FX card so I don't think it's your card.

Yeah, has to do with the windows media codecs. Try downloading and re-installing them :).

I had that a while back on a 9550 card. I don't know about the Codecs thing and don't recall doing anything with that. I do know that I thought, for what it's worth, that it was mainly a memory problem. I started dumping active processes in Task Manager before starting the game and didn't have any more problems after that. Whether or not that actually was the fix, I can't say. I've since been using FSautostart to automate dumping services and processes before starting the game. Works nicely

I had this too ( ATI X1900XT )

I can confirm this is a media player codec issue and ATI WMV acceleration. Patchwork videos .. but not all ..

I first found a workaround with "ATI tray tools" :

In "tweaks" section / standart tweaks / System tab : Uncheck "WMV acceleration". This will correct the issue.

When i installed the game " X3 Reunion" and patch it, i saw that the pach installed a codec (?) named : " Windows Media format runtime", visible in the "add/remove programm list.

Since this game install, i can reactivate the WMV acceleration in "ATI tray tools" without suffering the patchwork videos.

So, you should make a search on this codec or whatever it is.

First time i saw this kind of crazy videos rendering, i thought that my card was Kaput  and i couldn't find an answer :damn: . This was by great luck that i found those workaround above ...

Hope this help.

Link gave by Firebird should work.
