HELP! game never leaves the initial screen to go to the menu

Just downloaded the 1.2 patch and installed it over 1.1...game goes through startup but never leaves the initial screen to go to the menu. Took everything off and reinstalled, same thing. No error message, just sits there with the red bar all the way to the right. Exiting out there is a warning message that says menu id missing. This is a registered version and not a rip.

I uninstalled everything again and reinstalled 1.0; boots up and runs fine. Reinstalled 1.1 and works fine. Install 1.2 and it runs through the movie, goes to the first screen and runs the red line indicator fine. Then nothing. Close out and error shows Menu ID not found. I tried downloading 1.2 from a different site and did it all again, still same problem. I am running Vista so could the problem be there? :damn: :damn: :damn: If I could get back to my ship, I'd sink her myself.

Did you remove all your mods? I noticed the Hamilton Night attack watch is not compatible with v1.2. Gives the menu ID error message.

Best bet is to save your MODS folder, MyDocs/SH4 and any other /cfg etc files to a backup. Or HD permitting move entire folder to another as hunt/peck Backup.

Do a full uninstall and delete the sh4 folder

Install the latest drivers for your gpu and directX
reboot pc.

Reinstall 1.0 and run the School #3 torp attack

Install Patch 1.1 run torp attack again

Install Patch 1.2 run torp again
(Now you're vanilla)

Now change all the settings the way you want ( some in graphics require closing and rerunning sh4)

I was getting this when I installed the mini-chrono mod. After removing the mod, loads up fine.

Thanks for the responses. I just checked and there are no mods installed. I will try the torpedo class technique.

Ok....followed this recommendation to the letter. Sank the ship in both tutorials. Ran the 1.02 patch and got to the first initalization screen. Red line goes all the way to the right and nothing......alt+tab out after waiting 30 minutes and sh4 warning screen Menu ID not found. I'm out of ideas...Where is the menu id file that it is not finding...it has to be the file that sends you to the screen for picking career or training or whatever.

Whats your system specs + driver version?

Grunt 04-18-07 01:12 PM

Maybe the 1.2 patch was corrupted? Download al patches again, uninstall and delete the Ubi/sh4 folder, reinstall and then patch with fresh downloads?

NefariousKoel 04-18-07 01:37 PM

Yeah, you're missing one of the config files or some such.

I reloaded everything again, plays fine on v1.0, v1.01 then does the same stuff again when I try 1.02. I' ve downloaded from UBIsoft and one other mirror into seperate folders, tried them both. Could it be something in Vista? Running dual t2250's with 1 meg memory right now, ordered 2 megs the other day and they sent the wrong ones. Ati x1400 video card. Newest drivers on everything and hd optimized. No mods installed and no Jsme.

i had the same error.....

am now re lownloading the DtoD file again :-(....... ( i deleated it to save hard drive space DOH)

will see if a fresh install fixes for me. 2 gig to download still :-(

but i think had something to do with mods. i was able to play just fine last night. tried to add the mods today and something hapened. prob my own fault for trying the mods i had before...dumb me didn't look for updated ones. so i think it did something. oh well, next time i will be more patient and wait for updated mods!

Definitely good advice. If you are unsure, it's best to start fresh, install and patch before playing. Then play it a while before you add any mods.

Getting the same error. Downloaded from 3 different sights. Clean install, no mods. Not even a Mod folder for mods. Menu error like he has above. 1.0 and 1.1 work fine.

Anyone (ubisoft, experienced gamers) ideas...while I hate the others are having the same problem, it's good to know you're not alone.

I had the same problem when install the patch V1.2... but uninstalling the game, and erasing the SH IV folder into my documents, and the remains Wolves of the Pacific too, making a fresh install... it worked fine for me.
