SH5 back to WW1?
as knowing that the SH series are one of the great sub sims out there
instead of switching between the PTO and Atlantic theater why not going back to the Submarines of WW1? for what I have read on the internet it where wild times. just imagine that you can just die because your submarine has too many malfunctions and can give up on you any time when you are in trouble. Torpedo's in your submarine that explode even before you are able to get them launched, or batteries that release the deadly gas and sort. but also the tension of the moments of unrestricted uboat warfare. that at first you are forced too identify the merchant if it carries any that could help the war on the frontlines, and finally the day has come that the mesage appears that you can fire at will on every ship that supports your enemies. and sink those juicy dreadnoughts! who would like to see that happen by the SH devs? Not gonna happen.:p I mean most people I know have a sketchy understanding of WW2. Even if its a sim they always want to give it a mainstream edge, especially since SH3.
You say WW1 and everyone gets galssy eyed. :shifty: Hell its pathetic but my province actually cut WW1 from the History 12 curriculum just to save cash on the exam cost. I'd like to see it but the fact is that the PTO and Atlantic are proven to sell games and corporations don't take new risks very often. I might be wrong but... well since Red Baron, what was the last WW1 game you saw? |
I like the "feel" of being a U Boat captain.Any other theater of war doesn't interest me as much. I didn't rush out and buy SHIV because of the way I feel (Phew!) and I probably wouldn't be too interested in WW1.
That said, there are plenty of people who did buy SHIV, and there may be plenty of takers for WW1. I would really like SHV to be an updated and BUG FREE version of SHIII:up: What are we like? SHIV has only been out 5 mins and we're already talking about SHV:doh: |
@Robbo, it cant harm to dream about it right  ;)

While we are dreaming
Why not a cold war goes hot version with fifties and sixties subs? there were some very interesting developments that came during that time including the first nuke driven subs and huge leaps forward in sonar and detection and ASW.
Again may not be that popular, but might be fun doing some sub chasing as well. Just a thought.:hmm: |

that game was fantastic - I wish I still had it! |

SH5 should be SH3 & SH4 rolled into one. Just a idea.

My bet for SHV is either UK subs on the Atlantik, Russian subs, US subs in the Atlantic or Japanese subs in PTO. :yep:
Or then it is a huge game with multiple playable sides, PTO & Atlantik combined, but like Hunter said... one can always dream about it. ;) |
:hmm: If we're dreaming, I want a MMORPG game, including SH3/SH4, IL2 & SBP(or era equiv) all rolled into one. Right, as if.
WWI Sub sim would be nice but if it's done surface ships will have to be playable as there was little choice for subs. Me thinks Hunter is on a bit of a WWI trip at the mo.:hmm: |
The Devs have hinted while developing SH4 at further expansions of the game. I think they will follow first an approach like the venerable SH1 patrol disks maybe at least once, adding wolfpacking in the Pacific. Then a new SH5 will be back to U-Boats but this time with wolfpacking, milk cows and other items missing in SH3. It seems the most logical way to A) Keep SH3 sales still going for some time, B) Exploit the Pacific Theater without doing high investiments, and C) Return to the Atlantik in all the glory and with the best UBoat sim ever created, to boost sales again.
If they were to inmediately develop a SH5 back to the Atlantic, it would IMO take some of the late sales of SH3 away. Sims are known to have a much different sales curve than other game, they make a peak then go a bit down but remain constant for a long time. We have seen that already in SH1 and AOD. What I don't see as a main theme is UK subs or soviet subs or whatever. If going to the Pacific already raised rage in many UBoat fans just imagine what such a move would mean. Instead I see expansion disks of british subs for SH4 and expansion disks of Italian subs for an U-Boat SH5 a more logical step. My 2 cents |
Maybe we can lobby Ubi to do the full WW2 all theatres, pick any side, Axis or Allies with a lot more playable subs? The eye candy seems to be well in hand so they should look at what they need to do to make something like this workable. The market is not huge but big enough.

Im waiting for them to go back to uboats (i like us fleet boats too, but i like being the underdog), though i would honestly love to see a modern day wwIII game with subs like the 688, Seawolf, Akula etc but with a open dynamic campaign like sh3 (The dangerous waters/sub command games were good, but the lack of a dynamic campaign realy killed their replay value for me. I detest scripted missions for a sim)

8 months ago I slipped in the shower, hit my head on the curtain rod, fell through the bathroom door into the living room, stumbled outside completely naked and disoriented and when I woke up from the neighbourhood beating I had a vision of the Uber-sim. But I guess you own the intellectual property rights to that now.;) |
