See if you can explain that one to me. It required emergency back to avoid sinking like a rock. For 2 seconds I stopped the propellers, and then went right back to emergency back and it sank like a rock until I blew the ballasts.....

you should of fired a stern torp, and watch it fly out! still, thats wierd

Good News - its not a bug - per se. Somehow you have gotten damage to your forward torpedo room.

See the blue in the forward torpedo room? This means its totally flooded. Thats why your sub cant get the down angle off. I was playing last night and got DC'd hard and me after room flooded with bulkhead damage. Was set for periscope depth and had to bounce between ahead 2/3 and standard to keep between a thermal layer at around 165 and not wanting to go below about 220 - especially with a busted bulkhead! After 2 hours of dodging DD's while trying to keep above an expected crush, I finally got the bulkhead fixed and sneak away - but it took HOURS more to pump out the room.

Luckily - the damage came after my last torp was fired (a miss tho dangit) - so the USS Gar (Gar class - could you guess?) is on her way back to Pearl.

In your case - stay surfaced and make sure you have a damage control team working - no silent running - turn on DC - etc - and steam to wherever. In about 6-8 hours they may have it pumped out dry. Make sure there is no damage to any bulkheads that needs repairing - or else its just gonna fill up again.

Good Hunting!
Captain Haplo

PS - ya gotta love external camera - seeing a boat with a heck of an angle struggling to stay in control - either up or down angle.

I should have been more clear. I understood the damage and the way it was modeled, it was the fact that my props were about 10 feet out of the water spinning in the air. :D I had been hit by a bomb dropped from a plane which caused some massive damage to the conning tower and torp room. I was able to fix the bulkhead which prevented me from completely losing it, but was then stuck nose down with no protection from the air.

I was unable to find any way to stay below the surface (and sinking like a rock) unless I was set on emergency back. (I would have loved to find that sweet spot like you did until I could get the torp room pumped out). I spent a good hour or so playing around with this trying to pump out the fore torp room, but no luck. I got it to about 1/3rd flooding when the next set of planes appeared. I cut the engines for a second to start my freefall descent, and when I came back up they were still circling and flooded my aft torpedo room. Needless to say, no amount of damage control and ballast could keep me from the 2000m drop.

And my recent thread about the savegame issues only made this worse as the whole mission was a waste (I had a game saved about 20min earlier).
