Where have my torpedoes gone ?
I installed SH4 followed a few days later by patch 1
Prior to installing the patch I used to be able to view the torpedoes leaving the tubes and the external camera followed them on their way to the target. Also the torpedoes appeared on the attack chart and I could follow their track to my target. Since loading the patch the external camera following the torpedoes has disappeared. Can anyone tell me how I can restore this much-loved feature ??? |
I assume you mean the event camera? It's in the gameplay options...

Speaking of torpedos, some people have said they barely get duds. I just fired an entire boat's load, all of which ran circular, and half randomly detonated.
That's a frustrating patrol. |
Did you get your torps from the batch that had the sign that said, "defective"?
On another note, has anyone besides me left base yet forgetting to reload? "Open torpedo tube 1." "Tube open sir!" "On my mark ... fire!" "Fire what, sir?" "The torped... Oh. " :ping: |

I've been using both and have had just a couple of duds.
The contact settings seem to be doing more damage though, but I have no real way to determine that. (Other than watching the ships sinking.) On the other hand, I am using contact settings probably in a better firing situation, so maybe I'm just hitting a more critical part of the ship. |
Balao class with torps out the bazzu and the whole load (I MEAN ALL OF THEM!!!!) either duded on me or prematurly blew thier load. I didn't get a single hit.

The torps not showing on the Attack Map is a bug, there does not seem to be an issue if your career is out of the Asiatic, but for some reason out of Pearl there is. Not sure about Brisbane.

Yes. Event camera has been activated in game options but it does not make any difference. I do not see the torpedoes streak towards the target. I suspect a bug

I think torp following in external cam hasn been disabled in this game. Watching the dev clip releases the past year I noticed they never used it but followed the torps manually. I also believe it's not a "bug" but a purposeful decision on their part.
As far as duds, the widely varying reports we see on the number and circumstances on the duds indicates the experience has a random factor as it should. One of the reasons it took nearly two years to fix it in the real world. It is possible to get lucky and have an effective patrol even with the duds while anohter captain can't hit a thing. Even the Gudgeon which held the sinking record before being lost had a patrol where it sank nothing. -Pv- |

I've had a few duds that just hit the hull of my target and bounce off, ones that explode on their way to my target, ones that explode in the tube, but it wasn't until chasing a convoy today that one of my torps ran circular, came back and nearly took out my conning tower.

I almost left port once without reloading. Fortunately for me I checked just to see if any new torps had become available, and notice all my storage spots were empty.
As far as duds go, they seem to run in spurts for me. In my first two patrols, not one single dud. In the third patrol I got into a good position on a convoy, launched all 6 front tubes, spun and put the 4 rear tubes into the later ships. Out of all 10 tubes, I had 4 "torpedo impacts". Two were definite hits as I saw fire on the ship in question. One was a definite premature detonation; I saw the plume of water when it went off and it was nowhere near the target ship. The third looked like a hit, but did no visible damage to the target. None of the others went off. All were at 10 feet depth setting, seas were rough, but I don't think they could run THAT much deeper. I have no idea how many outright missed, how many were duds, and how many were circular runners, but it was frustrating. Since then, I've experience two duds, and they were targeted at the same ship fired sequentially. I was too close to have missed the target (900 yards) and they definitely had time to arm. It just happens. |
