The British workers
Today i went and saw my GP (Doctor) and while I was waiting and wonder when the planet will be blown up and so on, I came across an article in a magazine stating the British work force by 2020 will be working a 60 hour a week and 70 hours by 2030.
Good grief I read on, The British work force is the hardest worker in all of Europe and can not wait to get back to work after the holiday breaks and rack up the hours in over time. We are becoming a nation who look at sick leave as an act of treason and holidays will become the thing of the pass. We do more hours and put are European neighbours to shame. The article goes on to say, we will build up wealth and spend more on items we do not need. This will not stop the Governments from taking the bulk of your hard earn money way from in in the form tax. So are we fooling are selfs to work harder and live the dream? PS: Are we being manipulated without knowing it. :hmm: |
Not me
Sick pay is like an extra weeks holiday :rotfl: I only work overtime if I need the cash for something Otherwise the 35hr a week is enough  |
Well someone has to work so the layabouts in the EU can turn over a profit ;)

Lunch is for wimps:hmm:

I work 50-60 hours a week, but its entirely by choice. Noone makes me. But, if I want to make the living I like, I got to put the time in.
Here in the US, the average corporate employee gets 2-3 weeks of vacation a year and 2 weeks of sick time. It's nowhere near enough time off a year. nowhere near. Calling out sick is something that people hate to do, because management frowns upon it. They would prefer you come in sick and get everyone else sick. Whats more, they heavily reward people who do not take their time off. Dont take a sick day for a year? You will be rewarded with praise and maybe a small bonus. Not taking a day off in a year? Coming to work with a fever? That's sick. |

what ******* planet are those guys on? I'm sure I heard on Tomorrow's World that the advent of the computer would make our lives easier and more carefree, where we'd all be working 3 days a week in some paradise island thingy... Reality check - it makes my 40 hrs a week daily work more difficult as we're expected to do more with technology that keeps crashing repeatedly. Meanwhile I work for close to minimum wage at a skilled job, for a bald **** who spends his weekends polishing his new TVR, whilst I sit here and twiddle my thumbs wondering if my other half and I will ever be able to afford to save enough money for a deposit on a mortgage, or have enough left over at the end of the month to start a pension for when I'm old and the government has ****ed off the state pension because it costs them too much?! I dread to think what would happen if she ever gets up the duff... financially we'd be so far up the creek without a paddle it doesn't bear thinking about. And the real horror of it is we both work full-time. hehe I'm starting to believe my long-term financial security lies behind the business end of a shotgun down at the local post office :rotfl: ah well, I can but dream of long lazy days where I have the freedom to do as I please when I please. So why exactly do I want to spend even more of my life making like a battery for big business and the treasury? |
