loading external torps during foul weather & night

personally i don't load my exeternal stores into the boat during foul weather or nighttime.

i figure you wouldn't be able to in real life so why do them in the game.

any1 else?

If I'm in the throes of a convoy and the escorts are looking the wrong way then I get them loaded ASAP.

Brag 04-10-07 12:50 PM

Historically: they loaded torpedoes at night and in some fairly rough weather

It surprised me that they could load eels, but not man the flak guns during bad weather.. I load them as soon as possible since you never know if a convoy is just over the horizon..

Good Hunting..

When the mission demands, I work my crew like the dogs they are.

Rough weather? not a problem, the torpedoes are lashed securely. If any of my crew is lame enough to fall over board, I will find one to replace him.

WORK UNTIL YOU DROP DOGS!!

(seriously, it would be a nice add-on that if you are reloading externals during rough weather that there is a chance you might lose someone)

I do that, and also in rough weather, i do not reload the actual tubes on the surface, but submerge to do so.

Good idea for a Mod, a 'man overboard !' Mod

didn't they have to open special hatches to lower the torps into the torpedo rooms?

it seems like rough weather would cause a lot of water pouring down into the torpedo room.....like tons of water....

also, as for loading torpedo's at night.... how would you see what you were doing at night? did they use lights?

Yes. They had to go on deck and set up a small crane, and open a hatch big enough to allow the torpedo to be passed into the boat. It took more than a few minutes to do it all; closer to an hour.

As for lights; I don't know. I always load mine at night, but always in dead calm.

I lost an officer because he was "killed in a barfight" just before my 4th patrol!!!!

Really, what's the state of the uboat force coming to when men die in such stupid instances!!! :damn: Fighting over who gets the whore is just downright petty!!! lol :yep:

Yes, but.

There's only one Marlena...

"Underneath the lamplight
By the barrack gate
Darling I remember
The way you used to wait ...."

Sigh.

Though I haven't done any research into loading ext. torps, it seems unlikely the crew could load them in rough weather. The watch crew had to be lashed to the bridge in foul weather to prevent being washed overboard. But I'd like to know what actually happened with the externals. :hmm:
