Submarine classes

Can anybody write here briefly something about different submarine classes (speeds, depths etc.). Which class in 1941 do you like the best and why? And which in later years?

I quite like driving round in USS Pickerel, a Porpoise class boat commisioned 26/1/1937. Departed Midway 22 March after refuel, on patrol 7 and headed for Honshu - never seen again. Speed 19.25 kts/8.75kts (srf/sub), test depth 250ft.

Having said that I always kinda liked being out in a type 2 'canoe' in SH3 as well... I like earning the upgrades, but enjoy the basics more.
