Wow is it dark at night...realistic?

Ok, its been awhile since I've been out on the ocean, I'll admit. But in the middle of the night with the moon shining and all the stars, is it realistic that it is SO unbelievably dark? I mean its so dark that I can't see ships until I'm almost literally on top of them. (I mean me, not necessarily the crew, though I do believe they're blind at night due to other issues). Wouldn't there be a lot of ambient light on the ocean? I mean its to the point where I hate the night because I can't see anything.

Or perhaps is it my game? Some setting perhaps? A gamma slider I can raise?

If you are in a dark room, with the lights out (or have a red light) you can see better than you would in RL.

I think I read somewhere that "SHIFT + PAGEUP" "SHIFT + PAGEDOWN" adjusts this. Not totally sure and I can't check ATM.

How come all I can see is black but the crew see ships at 500 km away, them nocks they got must really be night sites.

Nope, that's 'BLOOM' Sh3's built in AA/AF effects.

I find that even with my crappy nearly dead monitor in a perfectly dark room with no glare that I can see things faintly in the distance.

This usually means that I can't perform night attacks unless its between 8pm and 6:30 am over here. My computer monitor faces a window and the shades dont help much.:nope:

But yeah. Its realistic.

cardician 03-30-07 06:44 AM

I guess its no a big deal. It can just be annoying to stalk a ship and get in position only to find its a neutral and I have to let them live. Of course now that I know that if they've got their flag lit it means they're neutral this will happen a little less frequently.

There is a lighter version of the 8km ATM over in the mods section. It's specific for GWX.

cardician 03-30-07 06:52 AM

8km? And not be able to see 16? Nah. :D

They aren't sitting in front of a monitor  I'd suggest to adjust the gamma setting of
your monitor or/and your graphics card. ATI cards for example have a tool to
load a profile for a game for this purpose. Depending on your monitor black
can be black or some more grey, depending on type (crt/tft) or brand.

cardician 03-30-07 07:21 AM

That's a good idea. I may play with that on my monitor and see if it helps. Cause now, when I look through the scope, for instance, at night, I can't even make out the waves. Its just literally blackness.

The mod maker is working on a 16km version:yep:

I agree with the fact it's too dark ; It is the only thing i find annoying in gwx. If i put up the gamma of my monitor, the interface is too much "clear" ...

I wish a fix for this, but it's just me and this is not so important .. But now, i try to not engage convoys at night :-?

cardician 03-30-07 08:39 AM

I'm not saying it has anything to do with GWX. I think I've always found it too dark.
