Post process filtering

First my specs:

AMD 64 3200+
1 gig RAM
ATI x1300 512mb

I have fiddled with all the settings for best picture and performance. Much to do about the post processing, I truly believe this game was made for the post processing. My reasoning is without the filter the picture looks fuzzy and bright, not clean and crisp like SH3. My logic here is when the post processing is applied the fuzzy graphics interact with the post processing giving the appearance you see. Not only that, I have the sliders mid-way, water glare on, caustic on and 3d waves on. The game actually runs smoother with the post processing on. I ran the game for about an hour in the post process and I like the post processing. I think it adds some thing to the game and to me the overall graphics picture is better.

Just my take on it fellas. Give it a try. It grows on you like fungus after a while. Back to my sub:yep:

I agree about the filter, it grows on me too. With FSAA it would look like art. I still cant get my head around the fact that less powerful computers are enjoying this game without stutters, though.

Post Processing does indeed increase FPS... interesting.:hmm:

I have studied the forums (not just to moderate) but to see who has what in the computer department and who is having a good time with it. I planned on not spending a lot of $$$. I had the strong foundation with the 3200+ and 1 gig. My 6200 card was the bottle neck. The best card I found without changing power supply was the visiontek X1300 512mg AGP card. It did wonders. Sliders at medium and post processing on. It just runs better this way and it really grows on you. I found it great watching Neals video and found out the rig he had to run it on. A rig not unlike mine:hmm: . So reading the forums I found the ATI guys seem to have the edge. I have always had the Nvidia cards and this is my first ATI. I very happy with it.

I'll have to give this more of a go. I did notice things seemed richer (not just a bit grainy) with it on. Without it on, everything just looks smudged.

I've come to really like the look of the post process filtering, and my mid range system runs this game with maxed out graphics with no trouble at all. I had a few hiccups early on, until I selected 'Application Controlled' in the AA and AF settings in my video card's control panel. After that, smooth sailing.

stabiz 03-23-07 09:00 PM

You too got ATI, TDK?

TDK1044 03-23-07 09:03 PM

No, I have a GeForce 7600GT.

The filter is starting to really grow on me too.

Smooth as silk on my rig, no stutters or dips in FPS either way. :)

Thats the thing men. I believe this game to be optimized with the post processing on. AA is not a factor here as I believe AA would not work with how the graphics are presented. Once I checked Post processing the game smoothed out and I have been clicking on more goodies until the game is unplayable. That is when I back them off:up:

BTW, came up on two warships. The first warship spotted me and started coding with the spot light to the other that I was there. In my mind, this game is a masterpiece:yep:

Not a clue

I'm using max'd graphics.

I was at an impasse as to using the post processing filter. After changing it back and forth while in-game numerous times, I went without it.

The only thing that convinced me was when that grainy overlay showed itself in a certain view. I think it was my Binoculars. I didn't mind it in the command room where the graininess is most noticeable but I wasn't happy with it showing up while I'm on an attack run.

However, I definitely like it otherwise. It really brings out some of the subtle colors. I'll probably keep switching back and forth but certain views are a bit off. It may be an issue with the resolution setting and when they fix the 3d for that, perhaps it'll be a must have.

Oh, specs..
AMD Athlon 64 3700+ at 2.2Ghz Sock 939
2GB DDR400 RAM
7900GS XFX PCI-E with highest factory overclock
Running at 1280x1024 on 17" Samsung LCD

Yes, it does seems more life like and quite frankly I get better FPS with it on. I hope the others who are staying away from it will try it because it really grows on you and presents quite a different feel overall as compared to other games we have all played. I find it very interesting and believe the game is better overall with it.
