dumb luck or divine intervention
im pretty sure god had a hand in this :)
ok so i can manually aim now without my game crashing and figured ill give it a go. ok being thick and all i have to pretty much sail into a ship to have any chance of hitting it, but never mind, whilst my base was over run i was flying around looking for things big enough for even me to hit. mainly engaging at around 500-700 i claimed a fair few kills. before ever getting near my destination, well you cant pass up Kongo's and heavy cruisers. i must admit i was lucky with the kongo, both my torps wich were meant to hit the nose smacked into the engines, leaving it limping along with me shadowing it ( i was pretty much like a feeder fish on a shark) finally once my dopey crew reloaded i could have a run around the side and finish her of point blank. ok that was the first bit of luck knocking out its engine, or i wouldnt have been able to keep up and sink it. some days later i was making my way from north of luzon to a base south of singapore since my base was overrun. around midday i had to submerge in truly awfull weather as an enemy ship had been sighted. i had two torps left and figured, unless its a carrier im not even going to bother. so i had a scan around and picked up a heavy cruiser, at around 3600 yards, probably nearer 3300 when i fired. with the last 2 gone i made for the new base. few minutes later while im still trying to find a depth where i wont broach i got 2 torp hit mssgs, i actually hit it twice at that range and sank it. considering most of my torps are fired at 500 or so and mostly miss i was quite shocked. i just got into periscope depth in time to see it roll over. i think ill buy my crew a beer and insist it was intentional (actually missed with almost all (7/8) torps on my first attack in that patrol aprat from one that hit a destroyer nowhere near where i meant to aim) i dont know what i did to miss with them all. i was in close range for every shot. ( but taking out a heavy cruiser in rough seas with my last 2 fish at that range was just crazy :) and needless to say pure insane luck. |
