You know what would have been REALLY awesome in SH3?

No "hud"!

Seriously, hit the numpad 'delete' key (also the period). It makes the 2d 'hud' go away. No gauges, no stations, nothing. Just the 3d screen.

Now, why can't we play like this? Well, there is no way to issue orders! Annoying!

If they had a pop-up 'orders' wheel (like the 'contextual menus' in Rainbow 6) over a crewman when you clicked on him in the 3d mode, you could totally play this way. No interface at all, just looking around the bridge at the gauges. You want a hydrophone report? Walk up to the sonar room and ask the guy. Want to see the current depth? Walk over to the gauges and take a look.

THAT would be awesome.

You could play mostly without the hud if it weren't for the fact that that's the ONLY place where you can read the current time compression factor... for most anything else you can sort of get by (specialy if you memorice the keyboard shortcuts) :yep:

I wonder, though - do all the "UI" commands REALLY have keyboard shortcuts?

If so, one could always load up something like 'game commander' and use voice commands. In German. LOL.

Well, heck, it'd REALLY kick the immersion up a notch! Even more than playing a full patrol at only 1x compression, and I know people have done THAT before!

Exactly. Whats the point of no HUD if you're still just clicking keyboard keys? The REAL way to gives orders about speed is to yell them out. Wouldn't it be great to say "Periscope Up" and actually hear the periscope motor start running?:rotfl::rotfl:

Oh man. But my family would think I was insane. HA.
