Salvos, Torpedo Bays and Sound Indicator
So, what's the deal? Is it possible to launch a salvo this time out? I know that in one of the attack periscope tools there is a dial called Salvo spread, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to set up multiple torpedoes to fire at once.
Also, separate question, but could be semi-related, I know that in Silent Hunter 3, the use of the keyboard command to open bay doors was useless, as when you switched to the next tube, it would close. Does it work the same way in SH4? Because it's a big pain in the ass to have to open my tube doors before every shot. And finally, where the hell is the sound indicator? I really only noticed it's absence last time I got shot to hell by depth charges, and realised "Ohhh, the destroyers were nearby!". I know, it may not be the most realistic option, but it's something that really helps me out. Is it still in? |
US subs had no auto salvo. Torps were fire individualy. The sound meter is gone.

So how exactly do they expect us to reliably fire more than one torpedo at a time at a target?

Subs never fired more than one torp at a time. Even salvos shots were spaced out. Too much of a danger of torps hitting each other and exploding....and if they exploded close to your sub...well imagine what an explosion with over 1000 pounds of torpex could do to your bow.
By firing torps a few seconds apart you don't run that kind of a risk. Granted that real subs were able to open multiple bow doors at once, they never fired their tubes all at once. (I know...I know...I was redundant...but I'm tired and my cousin kept getting me killed in DAoC tonight...*lol*). |

Edit: Whoops, tried it again with external camera on and they did close. Makes for some long gaps between shots. |

In real life they counted to 10 between shots so as to space the torps out as mentioned above.

Ok, this is making a little bit more sense (Though I am pretty annoyed by the inability to open up multiple bay doors.) but now I have more of a gameplay question. Now, I am playing with manual firing off for a bit to get used to the new engine, and I'm finding myself lost. In Silent hunter 3, it would show your torpedoes gyroangle, and gave you an indication of how close the shot would need to be, (When it was closer to 0, the better the shot, generally.)
However I'm finding myself lost with how to properly orient myself this time out. At first I thought the trick was watching the stadimeter(? the one with the mini boat, that rotates. I think that's the stadimeter.) and would wait till I had a 90 degree shot, but my firing indicator went from green (Great) to good (Yellow). Anyone know how I should figure out the best time to fire my torpedoes ? |
