So still only 8 km visibilty?

Tell me I am wrong and that Ubi DID fix the laughably low visual range of SH3 (8000m visibility on a clear day on a paperflat ocean 4TW).

but why is this 8 km visibilty so laughable? The ai is restricted to this limit too and it's also a performance option.

Honestly I cannot recognize any ship through this pixalated periscope in SH3 if its 5 km away. I just see some pixels... how do you ID it? Also have trouble checking the flags even when close (luckily american flags are easy to recognize) and iam happy for the color coding on the map to be sure :)

You're wrong! A dev said in an interview that was posted on the German Sh4 site that they have 20km visibility.

After havein in game experiance i can safely say i 8km for any contact. Not 20, dont know about land or what not but for ship contacts with realistic sensors on i only pick up ships visually at 8000m or closer

Immacolata 03-19-07 12:30 PM

No AA and now this. Sigh. What is next, they recycled all the sounds from SH3? I think this 8000 meter thing is a big deal to me. It was in SH3. If you cannot spot smoke plumes from far away how are you supposed to see enemy ships when not using that hacker map "gods eye view"?

Screenshot or it didn't happen.

Hello mates. I have seen ships at about 12 km in ideal conditions, smoke first.

They said also this:

Taifu_Noodle:
What units of measurement will SH4 use?
SH4 Dev team - Silent Hunter 3 used the same measurements system as the Kriegsmarine - based on the metric system. For Wolves of the Pacific, we will of course use the imperial system since this is the historical solution. However, we are considering to have the game switch to metric as an option.

perhaps "of course"
meant in Romania, we considering to patch it later if we get the task from Ubisoft Paris. I bet on nothing what a dev have said in past interviews, particularly if he is Ubisoft dev :|\\

Sounds good! IS there a weather forecast still? Haven't hear anyone mentioning it.

...and that is 50% more than 8000 - so there.

...but 40% less than 20000. :shifty:

Kruger 03-19-07 12:56 PM

I cannot tell you anything about the weather forecast. If it is there....I have failed in finding it yet.

yes if u mean by askin the watch officer the weather outside

Erichoff 03-19-07 02:20 PM

The earth is round, horizon is at 8km

The earth is round.
A sub is low - only a little higher as the water.
you can not see more than 8km - in good conditions you might see the smoke but that is it.
If the earth was flat it would be possible .
the ships are behind the horizon
When you are at the beach the place where sky and sea touch is only 5 km away .

Immacolata 03-19-07 02:38 PM

Its reported that from the conning tower you could see smoke plumes up to 25000 meters away in daylight. So the stupid 8000m limited inherited from SH3 is just... infuriating.

Spaxspore 03-19-07 02:39 PM

that might be true about the smoke trails, however, the map doesnt pick anything up until its within 8km same as the watch crew, unless your on the bridge scanning the sky 24/7 youll never see it.
