Question about silent running and engine noise
Is there any documentation or knowledge available about how much noise the engine makes at let's say onethird power compared to let's say full power at silent running?
In other words: How much difference does silent running rig make? I hope my question is clear ;) |
IIRC you need to be at less than 2knotts to be in silent running.
Silent running is a state where the engine is turned down to 2, no reloading or repairing etc. What I mean is that the engine is not technically in silent mode but going at slow speed makes it quieter. |

So "silent running" is not a technical engine / equipment thing, but only means slow movement and no/little noises being made in the boat? |

Welcome aboard.
You'll be quietest at one knot--that's what I use to get away from escorts. :D |
Running at below 2 kts isnt really silent running.
Silent running does two things. Stops all work on the sub, and seems to behave as a boolean value to the AI. Your either flagged as sielnt running or your not. Acutal AI hydropone deteciton is based primarly on how many RPM's your doing, and then checks to see if your in silent running or not. |
Thank you all for helping out and for those warm welcomes

remember also that at one knot you will find it very difficult, if not impossible to creep deeper, as you will be fighting your tendancy to be neutrally buoyant...
This only applies to GWX  |
