Questions concerning multi-skins
Hi,
I would like to add some different skins for some merchants, but I am not sure about two things concerning multi-skins. 1.) As far as I understand not all merchants have this option (e.g., NKC3, NAMC, NATF lack the possibility in the stock version). If a merchant has this option, can I add as many skins as I want to this merchant or is the number of skins per ship limited in the *.dat file? If the number is limited how can I find out the limit? 2.) I know Sergbuto offers a modified *.dat for the C3 to use several skins for it. Does such a modified *.dat file also exists for the NAMC & NATF? Thanks for any help. Cheers, LGN1 |
You can add as many skins as you want but beyond a certain number (I forget exactly how many - about 14 or 15) the skins will repeat and any beyond that amount will not show. I tested this by creating a large convoy of tramp steamers while I was working on the Merchant Variety Pack. Then again, this may have been due to some limitation with the single mission game mode...
I don't know about multiple skins for those two ships. I know the civilian version of the NAMC (NKGN) is multi-skin capable - I made a skin pack for it a long time ago, and it worked fine. |
Single-Skinned Ships
If you check UBOAT234's FileFront site, you will find several packs of multi-skinned ships, which include just about every single-skinned stock ship that Sergbuto didn't include in his pack (including the NATF). You can find it by clicking on my FileFront site in my signature, and looking under "Things I Like" (which I use for linking to other FileFront sites).
Also, UBOAT234 has made the following non-stock ships multi-skinned: - Iowa class BB, Coastal Tanker. However, the following ships have been reported to have errors when they were made multi-skinned (all others work fine): - Elco Torpedo Boat, Vorpostenboot (non-stock). And the following ships are still single-skinned: - Southampton class CL (non-stock), Fletcher class DD, Essex class CV (non-stock), Type 36A DD (non-stock), plus maybe some other non-stock vessels that I can't think of right now. |
Hi,
thank you very much for the information!:up::up: 10-15 skins per ship is more than enough for me. Multi-skins for warships are not very important for me since I always avoid them and never look at them :) Cheers, LGN1 |
Are any skins available for the NATF (Tug-Boat)I also look for skins for battleships and other heavy units.Greetings from Germany

You might want to check out the GWX skin pack:
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=106823 It is designed to work with GWX but you can just copy the skins you like into your ship folders if you do not use GWX. |

But there are no skins for the Tug-Boat, and no singel Skins for the most of the heavy units. I would also like skins for the PT-Boats (Elco/S100) Greetings from Germany:up: |
The Elco isnt multiskin capable
Neither IIRC is the stock Schnellboot The GWX Schnellboot has multiple skins Not sure if there are any plans to convert the Elco or Vosper though |
I think the Vosper is in the offing :arrgh!:

Most of the heavy units are not multiskinned so you will need to extract the skin from the dat files included in the skin pack. You should be able to search this forum for instructions on how to do that. Once the tga file is extracted you can rename it and put in your data\TNormal\tex folder and the game will pick it up. Most of the heavy units in the skin pack have excellent new base textures by Fubar. Most also change with time so there is a variety of paint schemes and/or weathering to choose from. |
