First aircraft carrier.
Late 1943 (GWX) I was heading back to Lorient with only one torpedo in my bow and one in the stern. I had taken some heavy beatings from trying to get close to some convoys, but I decided to return home when I ran across some DDs that were crisscrossing ahead and off my starboard. It was heavy weather so I decided to stay at periscope depth and see what was behind these boys, and right there was an aircraft carrier, a small one but still a carrier. She would cross my path perfectly. A DD was slowly following off her stern a ways back and her path would cross right over me, so I waited for the carrier to get in closer but at 3200 I had to loose a torpedo, as I dived I kept the special camera on the carrier and bingo I hit her just front of her amidships. I see she has to go down but how long I don’t know, the DD’s are warming up and I can’t go as deep as I would want to.
If I’m able to escape and the carrier goes down, how far away can I get from her and still get credit for the sinking, my first carrier sinking in a career and I want it bad. |
I would that as long as you have contact with it whit your hydrophone you will get the kill, can be hard though to keep contact if she stops dead in the water, good luck mate:up:

dive as deep as you can (depending on your HI%) if you want to survive
and stay near for the kill i attacked a TF in 45 (GWX) with an IXD2:dead: shazaam.....(:rotfl: ) i survived by going deep |
if you saved and exited to tell everyone here.....
you lost your kill. |
she is still up but sitting dead in the water, went thru the evening then night, the DDs are gone, it's early morning, i have no torpedos,,,,,,,,,,,,, what to do?

and start pounding it with the deckgun |
You programers are so cruel. I surface to use my deck gun but the rolling waves were too rough for my men. As I’m sitting there on the surface my lookout yells “ship spotted, coming fast” I look up to see an ocean liner the size of the Queen Mary all alone, blacked out, crossing my bow at about 90 degree.
