Your kid, and what has he dragged you into?
 

Ok, all you fellows and ladies on this forum who have kids, what hobbies or interests of your kid's rubbed off on you? You know, something your kid really is into, and as a parent, you take an interest in it.

My 11 year old daughter is gung-ho about Japanese anime, specifically Naruto. I dismissed it as crap at first, but of course the kid wants to talk about it nonstop, wants me to play the PS2 game and watch the TV series...and as a "good parent", I will indulge some. After trying to be openminded, I began to see some interesting qualities in the series... Holy cow, now I'm interested in it, too! :rotfl:

When my son was 8 he was into Pokermon, i use to play the card game with him although i had no idea what i was doing yet went along with it for months on end every nite i managed be suckered into one game before his bedtime. Then he wanted to go and see the cartoon movie Pokermon which ran for 2hrs & nearly drove me insane i found myself looking at my watch ever few minutes making out this was a cool movie but i hated it! :rotfl:

When Pokermon weared off after a few yrs he started an interest in Risk type board games we use to played "Risk Starwars Clone wars edition" alot, that i could handle and is actually a good game.

Now at 15 hes into deathmetal & Emo music, PC stragety games and girls:roll: :D

My 10 year old is dragging the entire family into electronics. If I hear one more word about nano and pico farads, I'm gonna blow a fuse. :damn:

hahahaha. I dragged my Dad into Computers n stuff. Now the whole family is computerized. :p

I taught my parents about the internet, how to program their VCR (they couldn't understand how to do G-Code), MP3's and USB thumbdrives.

They're school teachers by the way (they are planning to retire soon, so they don't feel the need to keep at the bleeding edge of technology)

A number of years ago when i was still at home, I managed to drag my father into AFL.

Now, he's a Sydney man born and bred, which for everyone outside Victoria or NSW means that he is a diehard rugby league fanatic. The mere mentioning of AFL is like to draw several :stare: of those looks in NSW.

Anyway, i converted him, and even now when i travel up to Sydney to umpire (im an umpire for it) he comes along for the drive, just to watch his son in front of 10k people. At least thats what he says. We both know its really to watch the game, because he cant get enough of it!:lol:

My two girls and me spend a lot of time at EB Games getting new Nintendo DS games and Game Cube games not to mention CPU games. The list goes on and on, mom goes nuts:D. Heck, my eight year old got the Pirates of the Caribien game and I have started my own game on the Nintendo DS.

Barbie dolls, being a beautiful princess, doing the ape, and horses, that’s it, basically.

The 2 years old forces me to wear pink Barbie princess paper crowns like her and then we play princess with Barbie dolls and we have imaginary tea parties.
Sometimes I have to put on an ape mask to chase and scare her as an ape which she enjoys a lot. I am very good at doing the ape, actually.
With the 6 years old, who thinks that the saddest thing in the world that can happen, is to be born an ugly princess, I go for pony riding each Saturday morning. Thus, I learn a lot about grooming of ponies and how to saddle them :-)
I took her to the stadium to watch a football/soccer match once. She hates football/soccer. I accepted that. May be, it has to do with the fact, that when she was a baby, I sometimes took her to the pub on week-ends to watch football matches on TV. Once, when I was putting on my football dress again to go playing football with the boys, she asked me: “How comes that you are never on TV with your football team?” How cute, she believes in me.

Hmmmm, I've not watched Naruto yet...but now it has the Onkels recommendation, I'm gonna have to bump it up my 'must-watch anime' list. :up:

First was the Barney and Teletubbies....Dipsy,,lala,,,that was silly stuff lol

then came Dragon Tales and Pokemon....

then came Yugioh...me and the boy have our own decks of cards we goto war each other with...very cool card game actually...my deck always pretty much owns his lol..Samarui Jack was in there too...that was a cool cartoon.

I personally Love Spongebob about 3 years ago made a Halloween costume from a box and trick or treating with the kids everyone wanted to chat with bob and ignored the kids lol...

Wow, we've been down the same path :) We did Pokemon for a while (Pika-Pikachu!), and then it was Sonic comics, and then Bone books, and Shiolin Showdown, and now Naruto. Naruto sneaked up on me, I would snooze while she watched it but I guess I caught some of the humor in an episode and began to pay attention. When I was a kid it was Batman and Spider-man, so I suppose Naruto isn't too far off base.

That's cool, Dan. Don't give up on the football, she will come around as she gets more time with it. My 18-year olds and I watch NFL football together a lot, they know more about the sport than a lot of boys.

The "things my kid has dragged me into" goes both ways; all my kids share some of my interests, including literature, computer games (they like those anyway, yeah?), type of music (Springsteen, Billy Idol, Blondie), and lifestyle. I'm pretty happy we are very compatible.

My youngest (23 now) got me into Harry Potter :oops: and Eragon(?).

My 10 year old enjoys Yugioh and NHL 06' on the cube, he is quite good at the latter, we have alot of fun with it.

My other two boys, 5 & 3 are just strting to get into stuff, my 5 year old loves the outdoors, I am glad as it gets him outside and away from the electronics stuff:up:

No problem, you have someone who can replace the blown fuse ;)
