revisting Bridgetown
As some of you kaleuns may know, in the previous version of GW I boasted how easily I penetrated Bridgetown harbor (Carribean) at night, taking out several parked ships. The GWX guys promised to make things a little harder in GWX, so I revisited Bridgetown in a type IXC (1942), again at night.
As I was nearing the harbor the hydropone guy picked up a warship. Taking a look throught the periscope revealed an armed trawler. I though no sweat, armed trawlers only had deck guns, so even if I was detected, as long as I stayed submerged I'd be ok. To my surprise the trawler began tossing cans in the water, causing me to dive to 130m! Then hydrophone dude picked up another warship - the trawler had called his big brother! Even under silent running I was being detected (the sonar ping sounds more menacing!). Sometimes I cut the electric motors and, of course, the anti-humming bird and DCs pushed me shallower. They DC'd me relentlessly until both were out of DCs. And, damn, if they didn't tail me all the way up the coast! :o Good work, guys! Also, have the wind sounds been changed in GWX - they sound wilder? Below is my watch officer ... are we sure U-boats didn't have nuclear power? ;) http://tarafoundation.org/sh3_eyes_watch.jpg http://tarafoundation.org/sh3_watch_eyes.jpg |
Nice one Shegeek,
Had similar experience in GWX when raiding harbors. In 1939 I made some passes on Dutch an British harbors and got away with it. Now in 1940 the guys seem to be a little better at detecting me and I got pounded pretty badly at 40 meters trying to escape. Made it though. :) Guess the next time I'm raiding a harbor will be with my XXI :) |
Make sure you run at 2 knots and a running silent. It seems to work well.
