GWX 1.02 Aircraft

Is it just me or is anyone else having half the allied aircraft they encounter fly into the ocean? The number of aircraft the RAF and Royal Navy lost around my positon would have wiped out half their avialable sunderlands and locheed hudsons and I only shot down two of the sunderlands. My course to the northern Atlantic is almost a solid grey line of aircraft that flew themselves right into the water. In addition I was sailing along mid Atlantic minding my own business and kept running into Dehaviland Mosquitos and Bristal Beaufighters. The problem is I was 1300 miles from the hearest allied airbase and the max range of a Mosquito with external tanks is only about 1900 miles at a optimum altitude and speed and it is less for the Bristol Beaufighter and Locheed Hudson (I think). This means that every aircraft I saw could not possibly get back to an airbase. COnversely, I saw not catalinas or sunderlands at all which is correct as I was beyound their safe operational range as well. I would have been a tasty morsel for a Liberator however! Is anyone else seeing this or do I just have a squirrely career going here?

Concerned :hmm:

Where were you when you saw these aircraft 1300 miles from the nearest base ?

Mush Martin 03-05-07 12:35 AM

I had this a few times before but not half by any stretch.

cause possibly aircraft set not to "delete on last waypoint"
and so it circles downwards.

I remember though that in my runs though was it Sh worlds 3.0
I had the messerschmidt sqaudron go under together and struggle
along like torpedos they came up on the other side of the harbour
after making about 3 knots underwater for about a minute and a half
and flew away and they were not at a way point end
they may have been at a waypoint but they continued onwards
to the next one. (to their credit as best they could under the circumstances)
they were in the low arc of a down swoop.

Where I was

BigBoyWooly,

I Was in AK62 If I remember correctly which is about 1300 miles from Reykjavik. Also of note at this point I was similtaneoulsy attacked by one Locheed Hudson, two Bristol Beaufighters, one Dehaviland Mosquito, and two B-24's. There were two Hudsons and two Mosquitos but one each did a swan dive into the North Atlantic before they got to me. At that point i dove to 100 meters and decided to call it a day!

Mush Martin,

Glad to hear its only a temporary thing, I think I will forego the rest of the partol and head in, These aircraft are making it hard to get into the spirit of the simulation.

Are you sure it was miles and not Kilometres

My answer was meant to be speculative not definitive.

Oops, you are right, its kilks not miles. But, I submit it is still out side the OPERATIONAL range of the Hudson, Mosquito and Beaufighter.

SOunds good, I will hang onto the career for now, I will head towards the air gap at the AK/AJ boundary and see what happens Just in case it could shed some light on the situation.

Thanks for looking into the problem.

bigboywooly 03-06-07 02:22 AM

what year is this problem ?
Just to be sure

Started the patrol on 17 August 1943 and its 9 September 1943 at this moment. I have been in the AK7X air cover gap for two days and no aircraft, only one iceberg. Up until AK62 I was getting aircraft every one to two hours. Also since the last aircraft spotted call everytime I start the career back up all the glass blows out of the dials, there is the sound of flooding and th message "Forward Deck Damaged" comes up, as soon as the message appears, everything goes back to normal, no damage. I am going to head straight for BE55 and see what happens.:ahoy:

bigboywooly 03-06-07 01:50 PM

The game reloads previous damage on reload - even if been repaired
The damage isnt there but it reloads it
Go figure

Ok have had a look at your air problem
:hmm:
The mossy has an operational range of 950 on the cfg which should be 850
But it shouldnt show at 1300
The Beaufighter has a range of 900 on the cfg so again it shouldnt have been seen 1300 KM away - in RL the Beaufighter could fly 1,750 miles (2,816 km) with torpedo and long-range tanks
1,400 miles (2,253 km) with torpedo and normal fuel.
The Hudson MK 1 had a range of 1,700 nm (1,960 mi, 3,150 km) but on its cfg its only 875 so again shouldnt show that far out

Most odd

But your post led me to look at something else anyway in that area so was a bonus
lol

Thanks for looking in to the problem you found some good information. THose ranges look ok for an operation patrol for those birds but it doesn't allow much for much of a target search. Well it keeps us on our toes anyway. IT will be interesting to see if it continues on the next partol with this career. I hope it doesn't bleed over into my IXD2 career, that thing dives like a cork!

Thanks again for the explanation.

Update:

Next patrol with a VII/41 this time, normal aircraft activity, a couple still felw into the ocean but they weren't arriving overhead every hour for a week straight.

Evidently a self limiting problem.
