messed up install of GWX102 + mods

... just in case anyone has any ideas ... BTW, I did rtfm :D

Before installing the GXW102 patch, I disabled the mods I had installed via jsgme (which were just a couple of GWX mods anyway), then I moved the mods folder to a backup location. I also undid a couple of direct file edit mods (eg no slideout menus). Then I rolled back SH3Cmdr.

Installed the 102 patch, looked in the new mods folder and saw there were only a couple that were there (presumably changed by 102 patch), so I dropped back in the other GWX options, then re-enabled the ones I had installed before. Also put in a new mod ... longer torpedo wakes ... via jsgme. Re-did the file edit mods that I had before, then put the new sh3Cmdr cfg files into the sh3Cmdr folder.

Started up via SH3 into my old career, no problem. I was in base prior new patrol. Messed around a bit with crew awards etc, then started game, but crashed on me about halfway through loading.

I guess I'll work backwards, disabling mods one by one in reverse sequence and seeing if game will start up. I should have tried it before re-installing mods I suppose. ... I'm hoping I don't have to reload the game from scratch, I liked that career.

I hope I can get some comp time later this evening to try it. Anyway in the meantime, just in case anyone has any ideas or sees anything I did wrong ...

Well for one thing you should have rolled back SH3commander BEFORE removing any mods from your install
It has also been stated your old careers may not work with 1.02 due to the many campaign changes

Try your "disabling and re-enabling one by one" test first, but to re-draw your attention to the Patch 1.02 release thread (relevant text bolded):

Quote:

Compatibility

- Please do not assume that third-party mods compatible with previous versions of GWX are compatible with GWX 1.02. If in doubt, consult the modder.

- Whilst most existing careers will continue to work with GWX 1.02, the sheer magnitude of the campaign changes means that the GWX team can not guarantee that all existing careers will continue to work.

- SH3 Commander users must d/l and install updated GWX config files. D/l http://www.users.on.net/~jscones/GWX...fg4SH3Cmdr.zip and install as instructed.
Your existing career might simply not be compatible with the latest patch.

Arghh. Now I remember reading that :damn: . Oh well, no huge deal. Maybe I'll try working back a couple of steps, otherwise I'll just start a new career.

Tks guys for yr replies, not to mention patience ... I should have realized that was likely the situation  .

Before trashing your *whole* career, perhaps try two things:

- loading from the last in base *after* save point and if that still fails
- loading from the *second* last in base after (or before I suppose) save point (ie patrol before last).

You may still lose one patrol, but *maybe* not your whole career.

Tks much, I'll give it a try.
