VIIC/42

I know this is a stupid question, but I was unable to find out anywhere.

If I change from a VIIB to a VIIC/42, how many torpedoes does it carry, how many bow tubes and stern tubes.

If there is no difference, is it a better subermarine than the VIIB top grade?

I have a pseudo VIIC/42 as an optionl mod in my gwx tweak pack.

anyway, heres the readme, it has the info you want i think.

Quote:

//format wordwrap

// Type VIIC/42. The boat that never was.

For details read the below listed links. I think this mod is the closest representation to this boat you'll liable to ever see in SH3 if this boat had ever existed.

according to: http://www.uboat.net/types/viic-42.htm
"The VIIC/42 was designed 1942-1943 and was intended to replace the then retreating VIIC, she had a much stronger pressure hull (with plating thickness up to 28mm) and a bit better offensive punch (16 torpedoes against VIIC's 14). Her diving depth was designed to be 200 meters with 400 meters as crushing depth (VIIC figures: 100/200 meters).

These boats would have been very similar in external appearance to the VIIC/41 but with two periscopes in the tower as type IX.

All contracts for the VIIC/42 U-boats were cancelled on 30 September 1943 in favour of the new Elektro Boat XXI."

According to http://www.uboatwar.net/VII.htm

" This design was brought about primarily in an attempt to increase the range and speed of the VIIC model by adding a second stage of boost to the already singly supercharged engines. Range was to have been increased with 35cm widening of the saddle tanks, adding nearly 70 tons to the maximum fuel load. Coupled with these performance issues was the thickening of the pressure hull by another 30cm, giving the Type VIIC/42 a normal diving depth of 300m and failure depth of a staggering 500m. Armour plating for the conning tower, an integral schnorchel and numerous flak weapons rounded out the design which would have taken the basic Type VIIC structure to its absolute limit. The first orders were placed on 16 July 1942 with Germaniawerft although within a year the entire conditions of the Atlantic battle had changed to such a degree that those boats of the 174 total number ordered that had been laid down within the shipyards, were cancelled in favour of Type XXI construction. Ironically it was the Russians who completed the only known examples of the VIIC/42 post-war when they finished the construction of U1174, U1176 and U1177 at the Danziger Werft, Danzig. It is though that they may also have finished several examples from the ordered U2301-U2318 series at Danzig's F Schichau yard as well."

Nice post:up:

Thanks for the info. It doesn't have any more torpedoes than the VIIB.

If it was never built by Germany, why does the the game offer it?

My VIIB is fully upgraded, so I don't know whether to change or not.

Go for the VIIC, rob.

I was doing a little reading from my German Uboats for Silent Hunter II.
It mentioned that it has TWO periscopes.
Is that TWO attack scopes, or just one attack and one observation similar to the VIIB.

I think you guys have convinced me.

I have one more question. The only disadvantage is that it's a little slower than the VIIB. How about it's diving time? Faster or slower?

I like the idea of having 2 extra torpedoes, hehe. I can always use 'em.

Now. Do I have to do a roll-back with commander after I change to the VIIC/42?

I know I have to do a roll-back to ad any mods. Speaking of mods, will the camo that I'm using now, can it be used on the VIIC/42?

Sorry to be a pest, but I like the best and to do the best job I can in these missions. :rotfl: :rotfl:

All the VIIC's dive quicker than the VIIB. The only boat that dives quicker than the VIIC is the IID and the XXI. But of the standard fighting boats on offer IX's and VII's. The VIIC family dive the quickest.

Rob if you change Submarine via the upgrade menu on the Port screen in-game you don't really need to rollback SH3Cmd. That said rolling back every time you're in port before starting a new patrol is recomended as that way you will have a better kept system. As far as the skins are concerned I don't know, although I think it might work on VIIC/42, VIIC and VIIB as well. just in case it doesn't make sure you enable them using JSGME.

Hi Mel.

If the Winter camo that I have on my VIIB does not work properly, is there a similar skin for the VIIC?

Thanks everyone for the information. Greatly appreciated.

The reason I'm asking these questions, is because I still have Silent Hunter still open, so that I can make the change.

I doubt there will be one for another type of VII that's why I'm suggesting it might actually work. Have a look in this thread http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=88849 and see what types of skins exist. If you need any one in particular let me know and I'll upload it for you. I have quite a few skins for VII type boats on my installation so tell me which one you like (or even style, colour etc) and I'll send it to you. Just make sure you enable them via JSGME

I just checked the mods I have installed and I have "FurbarsVIIC41 U997", so it should fit the VIIC/42, right?

Without being 100% sure I think it should work with VIIC/42. As I said before use JSGME to enable it, so if it doesn't work you can disable it without messing up your installation. Rob I'm really sorry I cannot be of any more help, but unfortunatelly I do rely on the help and readme files of the skins as well. I hope it works fine for you mate. Good Luck:up:

Well, I'm going to change to the VIIC/42.

All you people that responded have been a great help, for me to make a difficult decision.

All the best to you all.

If it ever went into service the 7c/42 would have been the pinnacale of dive-boats.
Has the undewater manuverablly of a type 7, coupled with the surface endurance and top speed of a type 9; it would have been the best of both worlds.
