Stadimeter

Is the stadimeter displayed in SH3 historically accurate? I saw in Sh4 threads that the scope view divides in two and i also heard that this is the way real stadimeters work in reality. So anyone knows if the german stadimeter in WW2 was like Sh3 in reality?

The advanced Germans used a scope that looks very much like the ones in SH3. Range was determined by measuring the length of the ship against the markings on the scope.

The backwards Americans used a split-screen rangefinder. Once the two images were lined up you would look at the stadimeter and it would tell you the range.

As far as I know it's there just to make it easier in the game, just like the 'Lock' button. I could be wrong, of course.
