Video Card Squealing -- FIXED!!!

I just found a fix to that squealing video card problem!

Go into dangerouswaters.ini and under the graphics section, change the .SoftwareCursor value from No to Yes.

I hope this works for the rest of you as it did for me.

Yes! it works  Finally I can run DW without feeling like the gfx card is about to melt or something. Really big cudos for finding this one!

Cheers Porphy

Wow .. I'm really curious what does the option really do and why is it making card sing.

Sonoboy 02-27-07 03:57 AM

I was looking throught the graphics section of the ini file to see if there was something that could fix the issue. It was like I had a vision from a divine entity and I was positive it would work. Kinda scared me a little when it did.

Anyways, I'm just happy to share the results.

Did you read this thread ?
I had hypothised that the "squealing video card" problem was due to the mouse but nobody though that was the origin of the problem. :shifty:

I used to use the mouse (optical mouse, no led, laser one) in "hardware mode" in dw and would get a high pitch during during gameplay.
Realised that by enabling "software mode" for the mouse would eliminate that high pitch sound.

Hi goldorak

I read about your tip, but couldn't find any place to change settings to "software" for my mouse, I thought I was supposed to to enable in the settings for mouse in xp control panel or something like that. I Didn't realise it was an option in the DW ini file, but now I know better and hopefully more people will have this problem solved.

cheers Porphy

So how do we actually do this? Where is this .ini file located? What do we use to open up and edit this file?

Sonoboy 02-27-07 12:46 PM

The dangerouswaters.ini file is in the Dangerous Waters main directory. You open it with any text editor.

Well I'll be darned. It works. Thanks Sonoboy.

Maybe this should be a sticky for anybody else who might like to try this fix.
