Will Subsim be around for another 20 years?

Just a thought that came up. I wanted to hear your opinions.

I'll be impressed if we're still around in twenty years. :)

loynokid 02-23-07 09:35 PM

I will be too, but...

Listen, ever since the marvelous invetion of the under water boat, or the German U-boat in WWII, people have been interested in subs. I have no reason to think that people will lose that interest. Just my opinion...

U-boats, and submarines in general, had been invented and deployed in the world's navies long before the Second World War.

To the point, SubSim.com will be around so long as there are viable submarine simulations being produced. Accordingly, the more accurate question should be, 'Will submarine simulations be around in 20 years?'

I doubt t he intraweb will be around in 20 years.. at least as we know it. So i had to vote no.

TarJak 02-24-07 07:21 AM

Will it be subsim as we know it, probably not, but as long as there is a committed community who want to keep in contact with one another and as long as there are sub sims around I'd say there will be some form of subsim.com.

confused I am

I'm sure it'll still be here, with the same domain name and all... in a completely upgraded fashion of course. Unless there is some sort of a major global event that destroys the internet somehow.

Yeah, as someone said... as long as subsims are around.

20 years isn't that long a time.

You are very right, but it's my personal opionion that the U-boat was the first submarine that people got very interested, but i am no WWII historian so I might be wrong, but that is certainly how it seems to me

You bet your rock dollar bottom it will be still here.

CCIP 02-24-07 02:08 PM

It's been around for 10 and subsims as such have been around for a good 20.

Personally, I'm far more concerned about true, high-quality subsims being around for that long - I'm really hoping that Silent Hunter never gives up. But even so, we'll be here in 20 years playing the same good subsims, I think

Maybe, Neal's grandson could play SH 14 by then on ultra high speed with instant news the moment it happens in one corner of the plasma wall screen with multiplayer game maps and AI playing for you on x1 while you are at work.

Come home and bang on your mini-mod cabinet telling it to let go of your submarine using voice command. Your new mini-mod cabinet comes with a 10GHZ computer with it's dual quad CPU's and quad gel cooled 3ghz video cards, cooled by a portable air conditoner on wheels that has a little ice maker on the side for your refreshments.

Yeah, baby rock on

I'll be 83, but I'll be here

It certainly did, but did so in the First World War, not the Second. A large part of why u-boat casulties were so high was the fact that the nations of the world were so concerned about the near starvation of Great Britian that they devoted large quantities of money and time to bolster their navies' ASW capability. Submarines, by contrary, recieved very little upgrade in capabilities between the wars.
