"Yamato" - Japanese Movie about the ship

  1. Otoko-tachi no Yamato (2005)
    aka "Yamato" - (English title)

I saw the full thing. Interesting, especially insight into the Japanese Empire culture/values. Also some insight into how it was like to work at the ship and so on. Quite depressing though. So-so special FX.
Recommended for knowing the 'other side' a bit better.

I've been wanting to see this one for a while. Someday, hopefully.

I'm intrigued by the dual-Film thing that Clint Eastwood did. The same battle shown in two different movies, shot back-to-back, from opposite sides.

I haven't seen either Flags of our Fathers, or letters from Iwo Jima yet... but the whole thing sounds pretty cool.

Both Iwo Jima movies are well worth seeing.

Always thought the Yamato's final sortie would be the subject of a movie someday. Glad to see it finally happened. Curious to know if they show things from the American perspective at all...or are we just portrayed as swarms of carrier planes?

Mikkow--looked at your art portfolio on Deviant. Great stuff.

Yamoto is one I've been meaning to see for a while. IMDb shows 10% of those who bothered to rate the film gave it a 1/10. Yes, I'm absolutely convinced the movie is utterly abysmal.

Strictly Japanese perspective. Faceless pilots.

I didn't like the movie so much when I saw it, but later when thinking back about it, it was well worth it. The music was cheesy, the special effects so-so at best. But it gives insight into what motivated these people into fighting.

Well thank you Torplexed. I'm glad you found it enjoyable.:arrgh!:

No prob. Was curious as to your favorite choice of digital painting program. Photoshop, Painter, or something completely different? :hmm:

Mikkow 02-25-07 04:40 PM

is anyone actively trying to find this movie? I'm very curious to see what others think about it. Especially Americans.

Torplexed, I use the painter series to do the basic work, and Photoshop series for everything else, which is usually a lot of tweaking and editing. Have two monitors and a Wacom intuos 3 graphics tablet. Did a lot of work on the Warhammer 40 000 universe. Although they're just little collectible card game cards.
