How do I stay surfaced after contact?
How do I stay surfaced after contact?
Seems every time I see a contact, I dive to periscope depth. Before GWX 1, I saw an irritating box that came up to ask what I wanted to do. All I want to do is give the order when I am ready to give the order.:nope: I am using SH3 Commander and SH3 Mini Tweaker but I am not sure what to look for to change this Auto-Dive feature. It does make it very hard to engage targets with the deck gun from 12' under the surface and constantly surfacing and diving makes it very hard to catch up to some ships.:lurk: |

Hello TarJak,
I am pretty certain that I had always selected "continue with current orders" since I never liked the Sim choosing my orders for me. If there is a config file somewhere, I hope someone can tell me were. I miss surface battles  |
What you can try is to press the Esc Key, somewhere in the screen that shows up , there should be an option to reset this orders.

Hello Henri II,
Sorry; but since installing GWX, there is no screen that shows up. All I hear as soon as there is a contact is "Periscope Depth" and down I go. |
Well, I mean before you even see anything. Just press Esc while patroling around. Unless your installation is totaly screwed, a screen will show up, the same screen that lets you save, end patrol etc.

Hello Henri II,
Thanks, I'll look for something there. |
Alternativly, you can go to the SH3 folder in My Documents. Go to data/cfg and open the file GameplaySettings.cfg, look for the line:
[MiscSettings] AlwaysAutotargeting=2,0,0,0,0;for warships, merchants, uboats, air and, respectively, land targets The numbers may be different in your case, change all of them to 0 (zero) and save the file. |
Wow, this is what I found:
[MiscSettings] AlwaysAutotargeting=3,0,0,2,0;for warships, merchants, uboats, air and, respectively, land targets I actually found 6 copies of this file on my PC (I only have 1 install:o ) and all had "0" except the 1 I found in "C:\Documents and Settings". I'll try the new setting. I was not aware the Auto-Dive feature was part of the Auto Targeting. |
Thank you,
That little trick did the job. I like to aim straight at the attacking Ships while they are headed straight for me. While I am firing my main gun at them, I launch a torp at them. Seems to work. Most of the time I just get minor damage due to the distance from them. Risky, I know but it works if 1 on 1. |
