GWX1.02 running in 10 easy steps!

The 10 comandements!

1-Before instaling what ever, be sure to copy your SHIII career folder located on

Your Documents Directory! To back up this it's easelly done if you just drag the
all folder to the Desktop, and leave it there, delete The Carreer folder on your
Documents directory...

2-Have a clean install of SHIII game Patched to 1.4b... This means, uninstall
everything you have installed ,SHIII game, and install it again followed by
the respective Patchs untill the 1.4b patch...

3-Install GWX Expansion Mod, And if you whant run the game ons just to make
Sure everything is at its respective place and running properly, when you run
the game, a new carreer folder will be created on your Documents directory,
don't touch it and leave it there...

4-Install now the GWX 1.02 Patch, after the install you will see the the GWX
1.02 Instaler have created a folder inside SHIII directory called Mods , move
it into your descktop also and leave it there. Do the run gamer again for
testing purposes just to check that the GWX is running nice and smouth...

5-Install now the JSGME and after hit the JSGME icon inside the SHIII game folder
to run it one time so that this way it will creat a new empty Mods Folder on
The same SHIII Game folder...

6-Now copy whats inside The Mods folder saved at the descktop to the recentky
created Empty Mods folder inside the SHIII Game directory, and you can also
add all the mods you whant in there...

7-Enable all the Mods you whant with the JSGME, and run the game again to check
if everything its were its suposed to be...

8-NowGo to your SHIII Carreer in your Documents Directory and delete all folder,
and finaly drag the SHIII Carreer (that you've saved on your descktop before)
To the Ducuments folder...

9-Run the game and start playing your carreer were you left it.(Docked at Port).

10-If everything of the above steps fail, go on your knees, pray for a cople of
minutes, concentrate and reinstate you mental helth, and go back on the
first step of this Guide....

As far as I read it you don't need a "clean install" Just remove every thing from JSME including the "backup" rename your saved careers install the patch reinstall your mods via JSME but your saved career folder back and away you go! No bloody way am I re-installing sh3 clean again with 1.4 patch.

I know you don't need a clean instal,
this is just a way for the guys that are having GWX 1.02 patch install isues...

the clean install its allways the best option,
and for that nothing better then following this 10 simple steps...

I have a spare SH3 plus 1.4 install
Copy and get another one to mod as I see fit

As I am always testing\modding and screwing with my game its normal to have to start a new GWX install regulary

The 1.02 patch you guys have is the second one
The Dev team and testers had the first one which couldnt be overwritten by the second so we had no choice to use another install

As most of them had a " out the box " GWX install for MP it was easy to create another GWX install for updating

If you get errors with the installer that point to JSGME files still remaining then removing the Back up file doesnt cure the problem
Sure you can fool the installer and patch the game but you may leave yourself with a timebomb waiting for CTD

Its easy to get into the habit of adding\removing through JSGME and using JSGME to delete unwanted mods
SH3Commander 2.7 reminds you to rollback so that shouldnt be an issue either

Just one question. I have the Dec 23rd patch in my JSMGE folder enabled that way. DO we even need that patch anymore? What I mean is can I just delete the 23rd patch once I upgrade to 1.02 GWX? Thanks much for the help and thanks bigboywooly for having a link to the 1.02 on your filefront link.

From the Patch 1.02 release thread (it is an informative read btw):
Quote:

GWX Patch 1.02 includes all individual GWX fixes released to date. You do not need to re-install any previous GWX patch or hotfix after patch 1.02. Indeed, this patch will delete from JSGME any previous patches or hotfixes that it finds.

:shifty:

Pls. read the manual guys!
It's what?
15 minutes reading!
But it will spare you some nughtmares and CTD...

Like JSCones say, Read the manual my friends before
rushing into the install right away....:yep:

Are you removing the remaining files after uninstalling SH3? Not doing so will simply see you have problems next time you install SH3.

You need to:

1. Rollback SH3Cmdr FIRST
2. Uninstall SH3, then MANUALLY DELETE the remaining files in your SH3 installation folder
3. THEN reinstall SH3
4. THEN install SH3 patch v1.4b
5. THEN install GWX
6. THEN install GWX Patch 1.02
7. THEN MAKE A BACKUP COPY so that when you stuff up your GWX 1.02 installation, you can always revert to your backup copy.

Seriously, it is not that hard to get right. I've provided more detailed steps in http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...276#post423276 I recommend you take the time to peruse them.

Bungo_Pete 02-21-07 11:55 PM

Yeah I did all that I am getting "key gwx files were not found this patch must be installed over gwx with or without hot fixes etc....."

JScones 02-22-07 12:16 AM

Just to clarify for others, the steps I posted above are just for bungo_pete. If you have maintained proper housekeeping, the patch will go straight over your current GWX.

Unfortunately, it is clear that the patch has highlighted poor housekeeping by some players. It is quite annoying that the patch is getting the blame and hence a negative reputation because a minority of players can't get their "house in order".

I really wish some of you guys would think before blaming everyone and everything else. The patch is doing its job by saving YOU angst later on. You can't expect that following the patch's instructions ONCE will fix the last two months (ie how long GWX has been available) of you NOT following the instructions when installing mods, or uninstalling mods, or using SH3Cmdr etc.

As has been posted elsewhere, the installer merely reports what it finds. If it finds something wrong, it's because YOU and ONLY YOU put the files there. Accept that. Fix that. And move on.

Rant off.

Pls email me your basic.cfg file to jonesoft at internode dot on dot net.

That is the file that will cause the most problems. I will have a look at it and report back.

In your email, also verify that the folder you are attempting to install the patch into is the SAME as the folder you installed GWX into, and that the basic.cfg file came from your GWX folder.

Bungo_Pete 02-22-07 12:47 AM

Will do.
