Torpedo distances travelled - LWAMI v3.07

Hi all,

Testing the 65 torpedo with the Akula at different depths and sea states to see how far they would travel before they'd cut out revealed that:

at max speed setting, distance travelled averaged 21.7nm
at 35kts speed setting, distance travelled averaged 24.3nm but when I set it
at 25kts, the 65 only reached average 18.8nm distance.

I would've thought at 25kts the distance would be much further :hmm:

Is it by chance that time and speed factors determine distance instead of just speed (fuel usage)? LWAMI 3.07 was used.

35 knots is the best efficient speed of that torp so any slower than that and it will end its run sooner.

The reason is that the torpedo is heavier than water, so part of its propulsion must then be directed downwards to avoid sinking. This is a drain on the batteries/fuel which is pretty much a constant amount of energy per minute.
