1.4b patch problems
 

I have tried installing this patch (the EMEA DVD version) but it says it cannot update it becase: C:\ProgramFiles\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII\data\Air\A DB_JU87Stuka\ADB_JU87Stuka:cfg: unknown version

Not sure how this can be unknown as I have installed Silent Hunter III from the cd.

Has anyone come across this before and how to fix it?

And just one more, how do you take screen shots? Sunk a destroyer and cargo vessel on my first patrol today and no pictures to show off :p

Yes, when I did my first uninstall of SH3 and then reinstall the game. Could not install 1.4b patch as you described.

The reason: the uninstall does not remove all of the Silent Hunter files! There are three files that conflict with the install of the patch.

The cure: do the uninstall and then locate the Silent Hunter directory under Programs\UBI\Silent Hunter. (You'll probably need to do a search for Silent Hunter under all files in the C drive to find it.) Delete the Silent Hunter directory which will remove all remaining files. You can now install SH3 and then the 1.4b patch.

However, it would be a good time to run a program called CrapCleaner before you do the reinstall. I have used this program religiously for 2 years. I always run the "Clean" and the "Issues" of CrapCleaner before turning off my computer. You'll be surprised how much junk this program gets rid of.

Do a search with Google for CrapCleaner. It is a free download.

Guys, we must also bear in mind that the latest SH3's seem to be pre-packaged with the v1.4b patch included. So our "make sure you patch" mantras that usually apply may not apply to newer players (which I have assumed by Leigh's post count).

This may not necessarily be the case here, but it is one more thing we need to keep in mind.

Yes I am new to Silent Hunter III and to here so I think the mistake was somewhere on my part when installing everything. I'm not sure whether the patch was already included on the cd as it doesn't say anywhere that I could find. But then I wasn't really aware of it at the time of installation.
