The end of the U-300

Lieutenant Sr. Erich Hoffman and U-300 surrendered to the Allies on 12OCT44. Erich Hoffman was sent to a POW camp in Scotland where he spent the rest of the war. After the war Erich Hoffman spent more then a year in Allied captivity. From 1947 to 1951 he was commissioned by the Royal Navy to write a history of the U-boat war. He died on 4 April 1968 in Bochum-Laer.

So ends the career of the U-300. Patrols in '44 are a nightmare of DD's and aircraft, thank god for my snorkel as I stayed submerged 95% of the time.

I managed to sink 80685 grt in 3 patrols (73572 merchants/7113 warships) and win the Knights Cross, not to bad for 1944.

Ran into a convoy on the surface during a rain squall and got jumped by 6 DD's which resulted in a mealstorm of DC'S and hedgehogs, sonor pinging from every direction. Patrolling in '44 at 100% realism is not for the faint of heart.

Now to start a new career in '44 and see if I can survive to the end of the war.

I'm sure your family will be happy to know you survived. Best of luck in your post-war career.
