Has the staple of cartoons been ousted?

Lets face it, there isnt a person alive who hasnt seen or heard of the Simpsons. But with the competition from Family Guy and American Dad, has the Simpsons been overtaken in terms of watchability and freshness?

I watch an episode of the Simpsons not too long ago. You could tell that there were new writers writing the plots... there was just something missing:hmm:

Give the show its credit, to last this long is an acheivement, but enough is enough, time for it to end. It really won't anyway, as it will survive in re-run heaven for a long time.

I will agree that the writing for The Simpsons has declinced from it's prior glorious self (see seasons 4-7). At the same time, I am interested in the movie, and look to see what will come of it. Perhaps some classic Simpsons wit will find itself ressurected.

I can contrast that with Family Guy, and it's spinoff, American Dad, neither of which have ever had good writing. The McFarlane production jokes are derivative, too lengthy, and frequently miss the depth of relevance that makes for truly great comedy (see Monty Python's Flying Circus, Simpsons seasons 4-7, The BBC Office, Are You Being Served, et al).

I am more of a fan of FUTURAMA which had a good run which was about right, unlike the simpsons that has had it's day. It's all down hill after season seven as for the up coming film all I hear and read it will be full of the old worn out gags, well I shall read the reviews first before I decide if it's worth it.

Time for Homer to hang it up. Besides, the salaries of the voice talent on that show is getting out of hand.

Every now and then I catch five minutes of one of these shows. That's usually enough.

I did like the original Simpsons shorts on the old Tracey Ullman Show.

I really liked Futurama...I believe Comedy Central has ordered a new round in production for it, slated to debut in 2008.

The Simpsons is one of the funniest shows ever, but it is waaaay past it's prime. It seems like every episode now they either go on vacation somewhere or have a guest star on. They need to make the movie and then put the show to bed for good.

I agree, I mean heck... get this: The Simpsons was a huge help for me in learning English back in the day :D

But I haven't even bothered to check on it in years now. It's an excellent comedy, but I think like most things that go on too long it's just being milked. I always said and will say that a key part of making a good thing is knowing when to end; I'm afraid The Simpsons is definitely falling into the category of things that overdid it.

I personally think the movie should give it a good end - finish it on a high note and off with it!

simpsons is a classic , but family guy is just too funny lol :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

bookworm_020 02-18-07 08:14 PM

I think the simpsons are still the best cartoon in the box at the moment, but it is past it's prime. It just doesn't have the snap it use to. They seem to make shows for guest appearances instead of making shows that can stand by itself:yep:

I watched the simpsons in the good years, beside Simpson I like the sick and hilarious ''Ren and Stimpy'' I really laughed my arse of with those cartoon.

Simpsons is long dead. It was an amusung show back in it's heyday, and kinda still is. But I don't watch it anymore.
Laugh out loud funny shows like Southpark, and then Family Guy overtook it.
I think while still funny, even Family Guy is running out of steam a bit, while Southpark is now funnier than ever.
Early Southpark was fairly lame, but I like the fact that they're tackling current issues now and creating a social parody in every episode. The Southpark episode 'Cartoon Wars' is a great episode that brings the three together. Season 10 is the best yet. Somehow they have managed to roll with the times and keep inventing new things.

I never usedt o like South Park
Rarely miss it these days
Still watch the Simpsons when I can
Same for Futurama

Dont see enough Family Guy
Mores the pity
