Flying where noone dares. God I lov'em.:sunny: |
I still prefer the RAF Harrier in Afghanistan buzzing the US troops at about 30 feet. The guys on the ground sounded well impressed.

It is mind numbingly loud. I've been around a good share or airplanes in my day and I can assure you that nothing, I mean nothing can compair to the noise that a harrier can put out! |
Yep stood in front of one at an airshow as it was hovering 90 feet above me and maybe 150 feet away.
I was surprised at how quiet the A10 is, but then maybe I shouldn't considering the type of engines it has. |
I once watched a Harrier do its thing at an air show. Then it was an F-15's turn. The Eagle couldn't hover, but it came overhead doing a 70-degree pitch-up at about 10 knots. When it was directly over the parked Harrier it went to full AB and accelerated straight up until it was out of sight.
I was impressed. |

How about standing under the wing of a B-52 bomber for shade at a Blue Angels air show while the Blue Angels, in FA-18 Hornets, fly low over the field? The vibrations were so awesome I can still feel them to this day even 17 years after it happened. The A-10 is my grandson's favorite plane ... He's 16 and wants to be a fighter pilot someday. Never break anyone's bubble ... just let them find the sweet spot. Thanks waste gate :p |

I like how the engine exhaust shakes the camera...pretty cool!

For such an old airframe, this bird is still in wide use! It is just good at what it was designed to do. She might not be the most beautiful but she can do some serious butt kicking:rock:
