Depth Charge Explosions (audio link)
This link was posted before (I think by dean_acheson) and I think it deserves another post as we get closer to SH4 release. If I'm not mistaken, I believe he got this link from Bill Nichols (?) web-site so kudos are due there for digging this gem out of the deep recesses of the internet!
http://www.hnsa.org/sound/#sealion If you scroll down to this section: Expendable Radio Sonobuoy Training Records, 15P3 and listen to XII. Depth Charge Explosions at the very end of a 3+ minute clip you can hear the sound of depth charges from inside a sub. Thanks to you genlemen for bring this site to my attention!!! |
i just listened to it
and now i have a strange urge to yell "WASSERBOMBE!!!!!":rotfl: |
I don't know how many times I have listened to these now. They are great!
For the clips on the sinking of the I-52, National Geographic did a special that you can find used on ebay or amazon on the attempt to salvage the sub, and of some of the aviators discussing the sinking, it adds a ton to listening to the old tapes. I seriously suggest for anyone who hasn't, listen to these clips. They are really good. |
Doesn't really sound at all what depth charges in SH3 sound like.

Sound comparisons
I swear it sounds more like the pulling open of a desk drawer in the Captains stateroom wherin there was kept a bottle of Rye...
:p |
That site has a lot of interesting stuff within it. The audio file of a recorded live torpedo launch where you can hear whining of the running torpedo and the subsequent explosion, is especially cool.
