An idea: A subsim GWX tonnage war!

I had an ephiphany which i thought might put some additional zest into the game.

Basic premise is sort of like wolves at war. The idea (which im only presenting, and not officially stating) is thus:

-A date/year is chosen to start in.
-All participants start a career game in that year/month.
-A date/year is chosen to end in.
-All participants have i dunno, 2 to 4 weeks to reach the finish date.

- at finish date all participants must produce the patrol log as generated by SH3 commander as proof of their deeds. (i think i might have the bandwidth to host these logs)

- Member with most tonnage wins... something, at the least, bragging rights.

Only rules i can think of (up for debate if this idea gets serious)

- Mod must be GWX
- Sensors.dat, AI sensors.dat, sim.cfg, contacts.cfg, airstrike.cfg and torpedo's.sim/zon must be unmodded.
- realism settings should have some minimum requirement.
- boat used must be historically avialable at the time. Either by commission date or first sailing date.

Good idea? bad idea?

Good idea? bad idea?

Would 70% realism be fine for the minimum requirement?

Or divide it up between those that use full auto targetting, weapons officer assist, and manual targeting, and set up a minimum realism requirement for each.

Like that one:up:

put me down for full auto:rotfl:

TarJak 02-13-07 08:33 PM

Not a bad idea. You should have a split between the Full auto and the full Manual targetting as there can be some real differences in hit rates between the two. would be interesting though if the best of the manual targetters got more tonnage than the best of the full auto guys!

I'd sign up for that in a heartbeat! I've been on a bit of hiatus from SH3 lately, but this would definately get me going on it again.

Overall im on the mindset of keeping things simple. Less things get bogged down in whats tantamount to red tape.

Realism, i dont like autoTDC because of the 100% chance to crit it gives. So my thought is checking everything, but allowing only the free cam, map contacts and WO assist, as to not alienate people from what should be a freindly competition. My guess is that most people wouldnt play without those three settings enabled. Although Personnaly, id like to see the freecam go away.

stabiz 02-13-07 09:26 PM

That leaves you and Codmander, Ducimus.:rotfl:

I think this is a good idea, but I`m a 70%ish guy myself.

Give me my weapons officer and I`m in!

Ducimus 02-13-07 09:36 PM

Stabiz just proved my point there. We can't go overboard with the realism settings or few would get involved.

(small confession: I like the WO too, I use him as a backstop when i get too impatient :88) )

Let's make it even more realistic: A two week tournament in real-time!

One Patrol. One Chance. The fate of the Motherland is in your hands.
We all take two weeks off and play one GIANT multiplayer game.:rock::rock:

We will Eat, sleep, and dream SH3....

Well I gotta run, gonna go set up my computer in the powder room (I've already unscrewed the light bulb and replaced it with a red one), and go shopping at the discount supermarket for their oldest biscuits and moldiest bread.

See you all at BE96!!!

PS I'm in, but would prefer WO's help.

I dont know yet cuz I waitin for a new comp cuz this comp Im usein a a P.O.S. too old since 2002. But Im in too when I get the new comp.

Everyone would need to use the same Uboat type of course... dead is dead... and no saving and reloading if you don't make a difficult shot.
Also... you should be able to restart the career within the given time period to try again.

mr chris 02-14-07 07:21 AM

I agree with Boris.
But sounds like a good idea to me count me in if the Realism does not go over 74%

I don't have Commander (and why should I need it?)
