Good Movie to watch for SH4

Everyone should watch the movie, Run Silent, Run Deep.
A great movie that looks at the lives of American Sailors in American subs.

My dad gave me his copy, its up there next to Das Boot.

Would anyone care to share what they thought of the movie?

I appreciate a quality classic film, and really enjoyed Run Silent, Run Deep. As much as I like it, I can't say I'd put it up there with Das Boot. Das Boot is simply in a league of it's own. The fact that Run Silent, Run Deep was filmed back in 1958 has nothing to do with it either. Heck, one of my all time favorite films is from 1948.

Still, Run Silent, Run Deep is a very good film.

In the Sub & Naval Books, Films and Models Forum, there's a thread on Your Top Sub Movies you may want to look at:

Why don't we list all of the Pacific sub... and maybe non-sub movies that will get us into the mood for SH4, good or bad.

Including the ones already mentioned in this thread:

Submovies:

Run Silent run Deep
Torpedo Run
Destination Tokyo
Up Periscope

Tora Tora Tora

Not Sub Movie...Great movie nonetheless

"The Bridge Over The River Kwai"

Are any of you guys old enough to remember the series on TV, " The Silent Service"? It was probably actually a sort of documentary. They always started the show with the sub coming up out of the water at flank speed. This show was around in the late 50's, early 60's in black and white. It actually caused me to join the Navy and become a submariner.

DIESEL BOATS FOREVER

The Sands of Iwo Jima...awesome John Wayne flick

flintlock 02-12-07 07:56 PM

Letters from Iwo Jima
Flags of our Fathers
The Great Raid
Bataan
Back to Bataan
Mr. Roberts
The Frogmen
Operation Petticoat
The Wackiest Ship in the Army
Father Goose
Pearl Harbor (Tora, Tora, Tora is much better)
The Thin Red Line
Objective Burma
Windtalkers
In Harm's Way
Too Late The Hero
U-571 (ducks for cover -- c'mon, it still counts)
The Caine Mutiny (sorta counts - great movie anyway)

Okay, this one's solely based in the Atlantic, but it's so good I have to break the rules and mention it - The Cruel Sea (great British classic).

Is that the one were they paint the sub pink? If not does anyone know the name of that film? Seems a distant memory from my youth.
