Not gone gold?

Shouldn't SH4 have gone gold by now if its going to make the release date or is it usually a couple of weeks in advance. if it actually going to make the release date when should it turn gold?

DanCanovas 02-11-07 12:34 PM

they haven't even got the news and encyclopedia section of the website done yet! :o

Tis a little strange... when do games generally go gold?

DanCanovas 02-11-07 01:49 PM

I was kind of thinking about now or at least in the next week or 2

It may be a while yet. Going gold typically denotes that the software is complete and copied to a master, which in turn is sent for dulplication (manufacturing).

Ahh, the calm before the storm...so many anxious subsim captains impatiently kicking pebbles around the dock, waiting to board their new boats. :)

I think the general practice is 2 weeks. So I'd expect it going gold by March 1st.

DanCanovas 02-11-07 02:20 PM

ok thanks guys.

Gold is rare but I do love it so :yep: .

Gone Gold may not be announced until very shortly before the actual release. Or maybe not announced at all just to keep us nervous.

:rotfl:

Amazing how standards differ. In the music industry "going Gold" means a record has sold 100,000 copies.

flintlock 02-11-07 05:38 PM

I believe SH3 became available around 18-Mar-05 (at least in North America), at least that's the day I purchased my copy, and Ubi's press release of it going gold was on 02-Mar-05. Just for comparative purposes.

In the US (it differs from Country to Country), unless it's recently changed, the Gold threshold I believe is 500,000 for albums and singles.

at Ubi they got the magical time unit called "2 weeks". For those who know Il2 series it is well known. Two weeks, be sure...

Lol, I remember the infamous "2 weeks!"

Just a reminder to all folks out there - dose of reality actually - AFAIK no game ever ships on its originally scheduled release date... :(
