Favorite Raiding Harbors
I've survived Scapa Flow on my 2nd patrol - sunk the HMS Hood - but I doubt that I'm going back, as we barely made it and frankly, it was mostly a combination of luck and the incompetence of the British destroyer patrols. A few less drunken British destroyer captains and I would be on the bottom right now.
I'm currently going to attempt Loch Ewe (I heard some whisperings from our "intelligence" folks that the HMS Nelson may be in there). Honestly, it doesn't sound promising - according to this briefing sheet the place is laced full of nets and mines: http://home.iprimus.com.au/waldingr/lochewe.htm So I was wondering if you have any favorite harbors you like to raid? Maybe some that have good tonnage but aren't death traps? |

Take you pick there's loads of harbours to choose from, eg NY,Freetown,Dunkirk,Norfolk,Freemantle.(GWX) depends what your after to hit.

Scapa for BBs and CVs, New York for loads of merchants and tonnage, Norfolk for DDs and CVEs, Port Said for HRN Averof (by far the most gorgeous ship in GWX) and Curacao/Port of Spain/San Fernando for Big Tankers. Take your pick:D

There are some lovely habours in the Med that are fun and challenging. Gibraltar, Valetta, Tobruk, Alexandria are all good for a renown boost on a slow patrol.:yep:

Me personally...I like Curacao with its uber-deep harbor and lots of tankers. Take a IXC or a IXD2 down there and don't sink anything in transit unless it's a 10,000 tonner or larger (and even then, if it don't look right, don't fire) and those 22-24 torpedoes are going to be wrecking the Carribean.
Anyone raided Galveston (is it even modelled? I haven't gone to the Gulf Coast before...)? |

Thank you very much, Mookie...if you Kaleuns happen to be tuning in to the American radio station anytime soon and hear something about Galveston being on fire again, you'll know why. :D

A bit off topic, but speaking of Galveston....I just finished reading Melanie Wiggins' "Torpedoes in the Gulf: Galveston and the U-boats - 1942-1943." While there was plenty of stuff about U-boats operations in the Gulf of Mexico, a lot of the focus was reading about how life in the city of Galveston changed as a result of the U-boats. A great read if you ever were playing SH3 and wondered what was happening on the coast as you sailed around sinking ships.

My favourite harbour is - none.:p
I don't do harbour raids, doesn't quite fit into my understanding of the game. |
