Single Merchants

Hi.

Just a question... Early in the war itīs easy to find single large Merchant/Cargo.
Now Iīm in Nov. -40 and itīs hard to find a Large Cargo or a Large Merchant sailing alone.
Used to get plenty outside of Portugal........
Where are they? Or do they stop to sail single due to the U-boat threat?

maybe you're just unlucky
you cant always expect a large merchant on every patrol

Search along the single merchant routes and near the ports. It is -43 in my current campaing, and I sometimes found a single merchant. But I usually go after convoys, more dangerous but plenty of targets.

Everywhere around the west coast of England. From Scotland all the way down to Ireland and Britany

The single mercs are reduced as the war goes on
Ships sailed in convoys for protection
They are still out ther but a lot less frequent than ealy war

Dammit Jim, you've got to get a hold of yourself! There's no way we'll win this war and beat the tommies if we don't attck them where it hurts: CONVOYS!!!
The Fuehrer and Admiral Doenitz expect nothingless from you than total dedication to your mission. Sacrificing your ship is a risk we all must take to ensure we sink as much tonnage as possible to starve off Winston!

I drew a line from Maracaibo to the middle of the Celtic Sea. Found quite number of ships in BE65. Go get them!

I've used AF-78 like it says in the Wiki to pretty good success. Only problem is the weather is always hideous - at least for me between September and January, as I'm still new to the game. Which means no deck gun, which means letting some little boats go to save the torps for something worthy.

AM52 has both single ships and large convoys. I even saw three luxury liners running flat out accompanied by four large escorts, but they were making way too much steam for me to catch up with them. :nope: Must have been well over 100,000 tons across the three of them.

I wonder - if you take out a big liner's propeller and strand him - do the escorts hang back to protect him, or abandon him?

they leave him behind after some time

Anything you stop 'dead' in the water is eventually left (at your mercy) :arrgh!:
